So, I was reading this post on Notalwaysright.com.

It suggests that ponies are a small breed of horse. Up until now I was also under the impression that ponies were young horses. Apparently, I was wrong. This also answers a recurring question I've had regarding what the word 'horse' means in the world of MLP. Now I know. I feel a little silly for my ignorance, but at least I can take solace in knowing that I wouldn't argue with a horse rescue worker about it.
I recognize that treating it as utter fact without doing research might be jumping the gun, but I feel it's a safe bet for the moment.

That's actually pretty interesting. I never claimed to be a horse expert before, but I never realized just how much I did not know.
