Another name for "Prince Artemis" · 11:10pm Mar 8th, 2017
So after playing with the blog system on here for the first time, and since I'm taking a small break, I thought maybe I'd put down a little thought I've had bouncing in my head for a while.
I get that there's a subsection of stories on a gender-reversed MLP world. I'm fine with that, even if I don't really care for it. And I get that there have developed some standardized names, like Dusk Shine, Butterscotch, Eris, etc. That's perfectly normal.
But then there's "Prince Artemis" for Luna's counterpart. Of course, Artemis was the name of a Greek moon goddess. It's not that the name choice is totally wrong to me. Artemis has become something of a duel gender name I suppose, what with the character from Sailor Moon for example. There was even a man in ancient history with the name "Artemas". I will admit though, the name choice does bug me a little because I can't help but remember that it's a goddess name.
And, actually, there is another name for Luna's male counterpart that can be used, one that fits the idea a bit better.
In ancient Anatolia, they once had an obscure moon god who went by the name of "Men". Yes, his name was Men. It was based in Greek. Here's the interesting part though. The Romans once referred to this deity by a different name.
That name? Lunus.
Lunus is actually the masculine form of the Latin noun for Moon, aka Luna.
It's literally a gender-reversal of Luna, and as far as the concept of a rule 63 world, probably fits better for Luna's counterpart. I'm not insisting Prince Artemis be renamed this. Again, I'm not really interested in the Rule 63 universe. But it's just another name suggestion for anybody that wants to use it.
