    Update, again.

Well, time for your monthly dose of Zoltan is an Idiot!

Okay, progress on Embers is going swimmingly, so there's that. I am halfway through uploading DOT onto GDocs, and I'm actually being motivated.

    Which brings me to

    On my absence.

It seems like I haven't been on very often. This is true. I feel bad because I enjoy fanfiction writing and the like, and I want to finish Darkest of Tides and Calamity Strikes, but real life hasn't been kind to me lately. I've just been under a lot of stress with college right now. However, this probably isn't the only reason I haven't been on very often.

    State of the Author

A little update: I'm not dead, yet.

You see, the reasons for the updates being slow are several: I had a bad experience last fall, I had a rough college year, and my grandma's dying. So, lately I haven't been in the best of moods. I am still working on Darkest of Tides and other things, but it's going to be slow. Very slow.

    Apologies,

    Zolt.

First, let me get this out of the way: In no way am I going to say that I'm leaving the fandom. That's stupid. Second, a minor reason is that I'm just a very lazy guy, so that's probably part of the reason why I'm not writing(Least I'm honest.)

Now, let me get the real reason for my absence: I just don't like the later seasons of the show anymore. Don't get me wrong, I still love FiM to death, and I will rewatch some of my favorite episodes over and over again, but... it's just not good to me anymore. It seems like it's starting to get stale and unimaginative, and the characters feel like they're getting derailed(No thanks to Mary Sue Starlight Glimmer). It's kind of like the 5th season of Babylon 5: I still like it, it's just... not as good as it once was.

I suppose this was a long time coming. Season 5 didn't have that many memorable episodes itself, but I still felt some kind of spark. Season 6 kinda left me without one at the end. I think what I read about the season finale kind of clinched it for me: It showed that the writers have officially ran out of ideas, kind of like the 7th season of Star Trek: TNG.

Now, let me clarify something again: This does not mean I've left the fandom, nor does it mean I'm abandoning the ideas I've had. I'm probably still going to write an April Fool's fic(Probably centered around Canterlot Wedding as a Take That to Fix Fics), and I'm still going to check this site and EQD, though not as frequently. Let me explain with a new segment: Zoltalks!

Zoltalks EP. 1: The Fallacy of Leaving Fandoms

I've never liked this phrase, mainly because it really doesn't mean anything. No one truly leaves a fandom, they will come back eventually. Maybe it's because I'm an old goat who enjoyed many fandoms, and I've seen a lot worse fans and downfalls(Please see the second season of Legend of Korra) I've actually seen shows get bad(Supernatural), terrible movies of a great franchise that completely kill things(Prequel Trilogy of Star Wars), and games in a series that ruin a good mythology(Assassin's Creed), and I'll still gladly say I'm a fan of those things. Heck, if I left every time something goes bad, you think I'd be writing about Samus Aran right now?

Even if something goes bad, I'll still stick with it in the hopes that something good will come up again(I still watch Nostalgia Critic in the vain hopes of seeing a good episode, and they occasionally appear). Heck, I don't even let the fans of the franchise get me down(Have you seen the people who watch Death Battle? Yeesh!) I'll still watch it and say I'm a fan. Maybe I'm just more experienced than most when it comes to nerdity.

Have you noticed that most people say that FIM is their first fandom? I'm legitimately shocked to hear this, probably because I'm a part of so many things(Check my groups page if you don't believe me) So I'm guessing the people who say that they're leaving the fandom just aren't used to the goings on of a fandom(News Flash:This is one of the nicer ones. You want to see a mean fandom? Go on to the forums of Screw Attack, check any fight for Death Battle, and say "X should have won/Wiz and Boomstick were right." Watch the fireworks.) I'm probably one of the few people in this fandom who've seen so many shows, movies and video games that I can officially say that I'm full nerd(I can quote Star Trek, but I can't remember the name of any of my teachers from Elementary School). For me, this is one of the many fandoms I'll go back to from time to time, and that's how I feel about any fandom. I still love Godzilla, and will go to Toho Kingdom, so I will still go to EQD and here.

Thanks for listening. I may do more in the future, along with fanfic reviews.

Current Obsessions: Just got into RWBY and Escaflowne, so those are probably more reasons why I've been dormant.
