As I have for a while now, I have been playing Dark Souls on the pc (with my shiny new gamepad).
So yeah, I got to Executioner Smough and his loveable dragon hunter Orienston or however its spelt. If you want to know who they are, they're these guys.
Now in all seriousness, fighting these guys is hard together, but useless alone for Dark Souls bosses, but still incredibly fun, since its entirely skill based on how good at dodging you are. So after seeing a "use teh lightning stuff" note on the ground, I tried the lightning spear I picked up and while it is ineffective against Orienston (the smaller guy), it fucking owns Smough. So I had possibly the most enjoyable boss fight in a long time, killing Smough easily then turning my attention onto Orienston to win the bo...CUE CUTSCENE:
Yeah, you see what just happened there? because of the prospective, its a little tricky. He just grew in size to about 25x his previous size, and got a massive health buff, a health insta fill, a huge armor buff, a massive damage buff, a much higher hit area size on his spear so I cant dodge even with my ninja armor, is now 2x faster then he already was (he was previous pretty fast) and now does more electrical damage (so blocking is even more useless then it already was in the fight). Also he gained a AOE surrounding himself that is 1 hit kill.
He is now essentially impossible to beat as he kills me in about 5 seconds.
WHHHYYYYY FROM SOFTWARE would you EVER do such a fucking asshole move. Defeating Orenstein first is a huge challenge that is incredibly annoying. Defeating Smough first is one of the best gameplay experiences I have ever played. Why did you have to give a second fucking stage to this boss battle. It would of been a far funner battle if you just removed the duos elemental weaknesses, so Orenstein isn't weak to fire (which I don't have, since I got 9 attunement) and so Smough isn't weak to lightning, and remove Solaire of Astora (So many people camp in Anor Londo so I don't like being human there) from summoning. That would allow the IMMENSLY fun boss fight I had at the start remain, while restoring the difficulty I lost against Smough using the lightning spear.
Of course I know From will never change this, so I now ask: Anyone got a hacked character that is willing to help me kill these guys? I'm sick of fighting them. Why give such a masterpiece of game design on a boss (I was immensly enjoying a frustrating boss fight when using my Iato 8+ on Smough? That is a fucking challenge) then force us to take the more annoying route of taking down Orenstein first?

Hehe I still contend Super Smough is the toughest of the two. Oreo is ok, but S'mores super-sized? ehh, such a pain! If you don't mind battle spoilers, I'll link you a video from EpicNameBro, one of the best Dark Souls guys on Youtube, and his tips of defeating the Super-size Knight. Once he is dealt with, the game gets easy, trust me! But, in the future, especially if you plan on eventually fighting Smough last on New Game+, Invest in Pyromancy as well. They both HATE fire (and Power Within is extremely useful!) Here's the video!!!

Currently have a 175 SL Intelligent/Dexterity model character,
and a 81 SL Faith Strength built character, Slices through enemies like NOTHING!
Oh, as far as your weapon goes, should be good enough, I used a +5 BSS myself with Power Within buffs, and miracles to heal. (My PS3 level default character I am waiting for the new content on consoles before finishing) Remember, ROLLING, and dodging, are better than shields sometimes. and you'll need that advice for a certain dragon in the PC version =p Good luck!

I had no magic (I FINALLY WON :*D) when I fought Orenstein and Smough.
And fighting super smough harder? You must have them confused, Smough is the lumbering hammer bro who is easily dodged with medium armor, orenstein is the super fast badass who is a demi god in super mode. And I know that dodging is often better then shield, I never used my dragon crest shield once during that fight, since I HATE taking damage when I block, so I dodged every single attack they threw at me.
And I tend to not look at videos, where is the fun in that?
EXCEPT THE FUCKING BELLFRY GARGOYLES, that is the most bullshit boss fight of all time. IMPOSSIBLE to win with skill due to the constant teammate humping they seem to do (its called SEPERATE) and the only way I won was by buffing up my sword (fuck the Drake Sword, why should I have to spend 30 minutes shooting at a tail, waiting 20 seconds for it to come back into range)
Glad you beat them! The only fight left that is, in most people's opinion is broken as all hell is the Bed of Chaos, but thankfully, there are ways around that. No worries, I shan't spoil anything about that. Hmm the Gargoyles hard?!? Buff and chop the first's tail off, and it'll be dead before you know it (mind you, I was using the Zweihander, which is overkill of those guys) the second I tend to toy around with...=p
Ahh no videos? well, if I may suggest you watch after you beat the game...ENB has great lore videos and his challenge videos are tough but doable, and what he is sort of the inspiration to my eventual Dark Souls/Pony fic (of course, I pick the character with the least lore out there!).
Hmm, never had trouble with the Drake sword, but I usually chop its tail off directly, and hide from the flames the drake makes I don't do the arrow method...
Where are you now in the game? I believe my lower level guy is still messing around the Giant's Tomb. Got distracted as a Darkmoon invading...=p
