"The Fault in Our Cutie Marks"- Mini Review · 11:44pm Sep 10th, 2016
That was a highly meh episode with a-- sort of-- adorable new character.
Honestly, I don't know what to say about that episode.
For me, it was just kind of meh. Sure, Gabby was cute, and that part at the end where they made her a Cutie Mark Crusader was absolutely adorable (and kind of made me tear up for some bizarre reason ) but I feel like that episode was lacking in so many ways.
First of all, I feel like the pacing was super clunky. Some parts of it, I felt, really dragged on, while other parts were really short and choppy. I did like the inclusion of Twilight, but I feel like those parts could've been shorter or cut altogether for the sake of a smoother episode.
Secondly, I felt several times that it was just kind of weirdly... off. Like, I'm not sure how to explain it, but like, for example that whole plot point about Gabby being too perfect at everything so the CMC couldn't even try to set a goal for her. That's a really, really strange reason to give up on someone. Like, she's so good at so many things, so why doesn't she keep trying until she finds something she both loves and excels at?
And sorry, Daniel Ingram, but that song was just... just... not good. It really felt like it didn't need to be there and was just sort of shoved in there instead of having a montage or something. Also, it wasn't catchy at all and if you asked me to hum it some part of it, there's no way I could.
I wish that Gabby's little cutie mark adventure was handled a little differently, because I'm sure that I would have loved her a lot more if she'd gotten a better episode. Well, I guess I'll try to leave this little flub behind and get ready for some Flim-Flam shenanigans in next week's episode "Viva Las Pegasus!"
