After doing a little investigating, I have discovered that my bank account was not accessed be someone else. What I had thought were ATM withdrawals were actually overdraft fees from the bank itself. What my bank, Hapo, has is an option called Privilege Pay, where if you overdraw on your card or checks, they pay the remaining money. They also charge you a $25 fee for every time you overdraw and they help you pay. I did not know I had this on my account, so when I first overdrew, I had just thought that I had barely enough money on my card to complete my purchase. My first overdraw was from the purchase of a fedora. it only cost $5.63 and I overdrew by 35 cents. 35. God. Damn. Cents. Then they charged me $25 without me knowing, which brought me to $5.65 the next day when I deposited $31. Thinking that I still had $31, I went and made a $11.37 purchase at Walmart, which gave me another $25 overdraft fee, then a $5.93 purchase last night which gave me yet another overdraft fee, bringing me to a grand total of $-61.65. So now, in about a half an hour, I am going to go to Hapo and see if they can lift the fees, seeing as how when I overdrew by 35 cents, it was the first time that I had ever overdrawn, and didn't know that they did the privilege pay. I have only had my debit card since March, so I am hoping they will cut me some slack.
