Season 6 Premiere · 2:55am Mar 27th, 2016
So that happened.
I'm sorry to say that the premiere was certainly not my favorite. I just feel like... nothing happened.
(Potential spoilers ahead )
I watched the Season 5 Finale before the premiere, and maybe that was my mistake. I had just immersed myself in time travel and watched an insane unicorn almost end Equestria... and then I cringed at Starlight's new hairstyle, watched a Elsa-baby-horse shatter a crystal, and saw a guy version of Moondancer save the day by handing some books to the princesses.
First of all, I'll rant. I'll rant A LOT.
Starlight Glimmer's New Hairstyle
Starlight's new hair REALLY bothers me. When I saw the promos, and the clips with Starlight Glimmer, I noticed that her mane was different. I really hoped that it was only temporary, maybe something special for meeting Flurry Heart. But no, without any explanation, Starlight's hair has suddenly changed. Where are her bangs? WHERE ARE HER BANGS?! (And yes, I call them bangs.) I thought that Starlight's mane was really adorable the way it was, but they had to change it. And they didn't even tell us why.
Flurry Heart
Flurry Heart. Oh, Flurry Heart. Where to begin with you?
You're another alicorn? Well, I guess there's another princess. THERE ARE 5 PRINCESSES NOW. WHY?!
What are you even the princess of? Destruction? Oh, that's great.
And I couldn't help but see the similarities between Flurry Heart and Queen Elsa. I realize that they've never seen a baby alicorn before, (Okay, this kind of confused me; what about Luna and Celestia?) so is this extreme power normal for baby alicorns? Or is Flurry Heart just a freak of nature?
Also, Cadance mentions at the end of the episode that they name her Flurry Heart to remember the occasion. However, she broke the Heart, therefore creating the snowstorm. I think a better name for her would be Blizzard Break or Snowstorm Shatter; just seems more fitting.
The Lack of Villain
Another thing that was disappointing was the lack of a villain in this episode. Are the MLP writers just getting tired of powerful villains or something? Because last season we only got Starlight Glimmer (unless you count all of the different timelines, of course) and this premiere we didn't get ANYPONY. Unless you count as Flurry Heart the villain. Which I'm totally okay with.
However, the episode had it's ups.
Sunburst
First of all, despite the similarities between him and Moondancer, I really did like Sunburst. The interaction between Sunburst and Starlight really was adorable, and his character design was adorable too. He was such a lovable dork, and I really think that he was the only reason that this episode didn't completely fail. Now I understand any StarBurst shippers out there; this episode might have recruited me.
THE PUN!
Though pathetic, I really did love the whole "Crystalling" pun. Christening... Crystalling... THANKS WRITING STAFF!!! (Or whoever came up with that one )
Shining Armor
As always, Twilight's surfer dude brother always makes me happy. And his sleepiness in this episode was quite hilarious-- though I've never had to deal with a baby (thank Celestia) I could actually almost feel his pain. And when he was chasing Flurry around the library, well, that was certainly one of the best scenes in the two-parter. So thanks BBBFF.
Thanks for letting me put my opinion out there. Though I don't want to start a fight, I'd be happy to read what you have to say about the episode, and maybe you can help me see the better parts.
Write on and remember to smile, smile, smile!
