That is the exact case with my current profile pic.

If i use an image its because i like it, not because i claim to own it.

Chapter 1, Part 1: The Old World of Equus.

Equestria is one of the twenty three nations of Equus, home world of Ponykind, Griffinkind, the Dragons, Changelings, and Canines. Equestria was among the most powerful of the planet's nations, with a peaceful culture, a focus on cultural ideals and economic expansion, rather than its neighbor to the north, the Griffin empire, and its east and west neighbors of the Changelings, Dragons, and factions of the Canines. To the west of them, was the Crystal empire, ruled by Princess Cadance.

Politically, the country was a principality. Luna and Celestia, the royal sisters, ruled the country benevolently. Luna was banished for 1000 years to the moon because she attempted a coup against Celestia, not realizing How stupid an idea it was. The Idiotic part was that Luna, maybe fifteen years after returning, decided to start forming a little league of separatists.

At first, Celestia allowed it. She did not see this group as a threat even with its slowly growing numbers. Eventually Luna founded a settlement in unclaimed territory outside of Equestria, having taken her followers with her and founding Lunis. Lunis was located in a valley surrounded by steep cliffs, Jagged peaks, and mountains. The valley itself was heavily forested and so it provided natural cover. The village became a town, and the town became a city within forty years. Soon, another settlement was established, and then another, until Luna had her own little nation to the southwest of Equestria, called the Lunar Principality.

The Lunar principality and Equestria got along just fine at first, as Celestia and Luna had agreed to a free trade relationship and to assist each other in times of crisis. However these agreements did little to stop the change of ideologies between the two groups. Eventually the split in ideologies became more obvious, until there was two different pony civilizations in general.

Over a few hundred years, Equestria's population and the Lunar Principalitie's population rose. Equestria hit the five hundred million mark, and the Lunar Principality hit the hundred million mark. In this time, The Apple Family is a corporate power house, selling - you guessed it -apples. Twilight has formed her own government, a monarchy in the south of Equestria. Along with this, the Griffin States of the Old griffin Empire, are actively at war with each other, and, as is the case with the True Griffin Empire, they are also at war with Equestria.

By this point the split in ideologies was actually fairly obvious, and so both nations begin to drift somewhat in the opposite direction of peace. The drift begins in the Lunar Principality, as Luna begins to improve upon weapons technology and defensive capabilities. Celestia does the same, but drifts somewhat further towards the use of magic than the use of technology, and thus, she begins to research things such as magic barriers able to stop a artillery shell. Luna develops the first assault rifles, and within another hundred years of the
unannounced arms race between the two countries, Luna and Celestia have developed massive arsenals of war, despite the peaceful natures of these countries and there cultures.

Part 2: Start of Hostilities, and the Beginning of the End.
The conflict itself erupted twelve years later, as Luna mounted a large blitzkrieg style invasion of Equestria in hopes of taking more territory for a growing population to exist in. What she did not count on was the massive and sudden response given by the Equestrian Military, and the furious power of the static defenses set up before.

A Equestrian counterattack spearheaded by a series of strikes from a Magical Super weapon created by Celestia called the 38-Natural Devastation, created a large enough opening for the Equestrian Forces to swoop in to Lunar Controlled Territory, and crush Luna's first army group. As Luna's third and fourth army groups moved to close the gap, the eighth and ninth Equestrian armored groups, supported by the twelfth army group, forced a stalemate and drove back Lunar Forces.

The forces of Luna eventually manage to make it to the doorstep of Canterlot, which has become a bustling metropolis, using teleportation spells to circumvent Celestia's defenses . Celestia herself, with the tenth and thirteenth army groups, smash Luna's forces, and begin to push towards the Border. Within Six months, Celestia has effectively obliterated the expeditionary forces of Luna, and the conflict begins to escalate even further. Luna begins a much more determined invasion of Equestria with the entirety of her military, bringing in every unit she can scrape up.

Celestia responds with a new military campaign. The Equestrian Military begins to send everything not tied down to the Griffin front in to the fight, As a massive bombing campaign begins with the goal of destroying the occupied country side, and the border areas of the Lunar Principality. Once the bombing raids came to a end, a large series of blitzkrieg attacks by the Equestrian supplied paramilitary forces of Celestial Loyalists, in to several Lunar aligned towns was carried out. These attacks had caused much of the Lunar forces on the border to withdraw to try to quell the revolts by the Celestial Loyalists.

Soon, Celestia was bringing in six army groups and was plowing straight across the border, with her aim being to hit Lunis and capture it.
However, before this goal could be achieved, Luna used a experimental weapon, a explosive device that destroyed four of the six army groups and nearly obliterated the fifth. the first, the only army group to be unscathed by the weapon, began to push straight for Luna's capital, Celestia arriving and marching with them.

As six days passed, massive amounts of ordinance began to be drop on both countries by the other. Luna was using fire, and Celestia was using magical weapons. Soon enough much of both countries has been depopulated. The massive amounts of deaths is only enough to fuel the rage, and soon both countries begin to become unstable, as riots, uprisings, political dissidents and soon, Panicked, blind rage fueled attacks by the militaries of both nations. Soon, before either leader could gain control, the worst event possible, the end of the war, and the end of many more millions of lives.

When electromagnetic and magic countermeasures disabled any and all communications, the escalations began. WMDs, ranging from magical and nuclear weapons, had began to launch and detonate. at first, there was only a few. Only a couple every few hours, but soon came dozens every few hours.

Cities everywhere, had been destroyed by the end of the war, and nations across the planet had been damaged. Equestria and the Lunar Principality had been practically annihilated, Equestria's population had been annihilated by eighty percent. The Principality's loses being 70%. Four hundred million lives lost in the Equestrian - Principality war at its climax. The deaths outside the nations numbered in the millions, as radiation clouds spread across the planet.

The forests and brush of the planet, had been burned. Cities destroyed. Civilizations across the planet, annihilated and covered in ash and burning. Pollution saturated the atmosphere, chocking the planet and much of ecosystem in to death. Celestia and Luna had almost lost their lives in this conflict.

It is unknown what happened to Queen Chrysalis and the Changelings at the time.
