Wow, im actually quite surprised at people levelling flak at me for having a Firefly referance in the title of my story (If you've never watched Firefly, do so, because it is awesome). I picked the line as a title because one of the major themes of of the story is disability and being cast out or abandoned. The line reflects that. Fluttershy and Ditzy both have varying levels of wing damage and cannot fly properly, and one of the things Dash desperately wants is to just keep flying. The whole abandoned thing is that they have effectively been abandoned, with no help coming from Cloudsdale (the city in the sky) since they're busy enough with the storm.
Anyway, maybe I'm getting worked up over this. Maybe they are. Oh well. Still, shame people are dismissing it out of hand though.
