I was looking for a song to post.
but I found this again.
the song I was looking for, same era, same genre, don't remember the band, but it's got a 2 step bass line something like this
- - - _-_ _ _ _-_-_
(where the - is a high note on the bass, and the _ is a low note, probably the 9 and seven frets on the E and A strings...)
and the only lyrics I can remember are 'I don't need a friend, to get me through this.'
I don't know.
