Cheshire Recommends 2: Act of Agression · 8:14am Sep 13th, 2015
Welcome back, once again to another Cheshire Recommends. This week, we're taking a look at the newly released "Act of Agression".
Now, this one here, while fairly unbalanced at the time of writing, is definitely one of the better RTS games to have been released in recent memory. The spiritual successor to Command & Conquer, this game sets out to put fresh life back into the old-school RTS style of gameplay with updated graphics, 3 military groups to choose from each with unique units and weaponry and devastating super-weapons which can decimate an entire base.
As for the factions, you've got;
The Chimera, a UN special task force specialising in light vehicles, infantry specialists and mobility. They're fast, efficient, cheap and as of right now, in my opinion, a little overpowered.
The US Army, possibly the most well-rounded faction in the game with units who are arguably the best at what they do. They're the tankiest faction, with some of the best vehicles in the game.
The Cartel, a highly technologically advanced mercenary company specialising in stealth warfare and long-ranged combat, but with vehicles that are extremely fragile.
Now, my personal favourite faction to play is the Cartel, as I just love their units and playstyle of pure overwhelming force with glass-cannon units.
Now, I will point out that there are some balancing issues that this game has that can ruin one's experience. Things such as the Chimera's Terminator tanks being essentially a ridiculously powerful multi-target weapons platform when in groups of 10 or more which, when coupled with how cheap they are to produce, can be almost completely invulnerable to everything due to their ability to shoot down incoming missiles and their anti-tank/air/infantry guns being able to wipe out anything that moves. Or the American Howitzer artillery, which when upgraded, can destroy almost any defensive structure in one or two hits. Or the Cartel's 2x damage buff on all of it's stealth units (which are already extremely powerful). However, if you can look past this, the game is extremely enjoyable, my friends and I have been having an absolute blast with it, playing it at nearly every opportunity we have.
All in all, go check it out for yourself. If you're a fan of old-school RTS games, this might just be your game of the year.
Cheshire out.
