    Why roleplay as Fem!Crona?

Ah, yes. The biggest controversy this fandom has had and still has to day is what gender this little androgynous son of a witch is.

And no, by "Son of a witch" I'm not automatically assuming it's a guy. Yeesh, didn't you read the title, you ignorant fuck?

    hi yeah I exist

You may/may not have noticed that I've been gone for what... six weeks? That's like, two months or so. I don't even know anymore.

I kept popping back in every once and awhile but I couldn't bring myself to stay on for more than an hour. Ha ha. I'm pathetic.
    Anywho...

Why roleplay as Fem!Crona? · 6:31am Aug 29th, 2015

Ah, yes. The biggest controversy this fandom has had and still has to day is what gender this little androgynous son of a witch is.

And no, by "Son of a witch" I'm not automatically assuming it's a guy. Yeesh, didn't you read the title, you ignorant fuck?

Anyhow with my ironic rudeness aside, let's talk about why on a daily basis that I'm scolded on the internet for playing a Fem! version of Crona. Of course, most of these will be based off of opinion and stereotypical appearance facts. Any factual Soul Eater fan will tell you that Crona has no real gender, thus rendering them "genderless" or "androgynous", and I'm not going to argue. The truth is, outside of roleplaying, I usually do refer to Crona as a "them" rather than a "she" like I do when I'm writing with her. Please note that below will be some triggering stuff (body confusion, stereotypes, etc) and if you're someone who cannot handle that or is easily triggered to please disregard this blog post.

1) Pink hair
"having pink hair in animes doesnt meen its a girl!!!!11! WHAT ABOUT NATSU?!?Q!???!"

It's true that in anime, you can be a male and have what would be a "feminine" color as a hair and not even be homosexual, a cross dresser, flamboyant, or anything. You can just simply have pink hair, because this doesn't imply anything else than what your personality is. Nearly all anime follow a color wheel for hair colors. For example, the hair-color "Silver" is a mix between Black (macabre) and White (monotone), so a character like Kakashi from Naruto might be a monotone, chill guy who has some secret power... which, in fact he does! Though is it really even a secret anymore?

Since pink is one of the most popular anime hair colors in existence, it has to have a meaning as well, right?

And, as I was saying when I started this paragraph, it does. Pink hair generally means the following: "Benevolent, feminine, youthful, innocent, cheerful, cute, orderly, accomplished, gullible, frustrated." The one big word out of there is "feminine", if you hadn't noticed by the way I so bodly changed the font. All of those words apply to Crona: An innocent, cute, gullible, little girl. The others have to share as well, crossing out "cheerful" as the only one she would be lacking in. But honestly, she is the kindest little witch once she recovers from being under Medusa's law (benevolent), she is quite accomplished in how far she had advanced from the beginning of the series, and she is shown to get frustrated when things don't happen a certain way (not really showing it, but you get the point.)

But what does pink hair on boys in anime mean? It means, to put it simply, they're usually some type of pervert. Yes, the words above do apply to them, except this time, feminine is the one word being crossed out. If you look at some of the pink-haired male characters in various things, they really aren't all that girly.

okay... maybe Renzou wasn't the best choice, but you get the point right? Crona is nothing close to a pervert, and she's certainly not masculine... like, at all.

2) Hips

I mean damn though. This guy/girl/it/them has the biggest hips I have ever seen in the history of anime. Not that I'm complaining...
Do I really need to say anything further on this? Yes, guys have hips, obviously. But they aren't that broad or that defined... especially not in anime. I mean god, look at them!

3) Weapon/Meister Relationship

You've probably noticed the relationship between main meister and weapon partners in Soul Eater. Soul is a boy (weapon) and Maka is a girl (meister). Black*Star is a boy (meister) and Tsubaki is a girl (weapon.) Even if we don't know Crona's gender for a definite, it's made quite obvious that Ragnarok, her weapon, is a boy. So would it really make sense to throw the whole story's "system" out of whack and just make both of them boys? Sure, background characters (referring to the anime, of course) like Kim and Jackie and Oxford and Harvard are same-sex, but they're less important than any of the main characters. And no, Crona is not considered a background character.

In addition to that weirdo relationship, in both the anime and manga, Ragnarok lifts Crona's skirt after she punches him.

I'm not one hundred percent sure on this, but I'm guessing most guy's don't call other guy's "perverts!" and blush when their dress is lifted. If a high-school kid who was a boy pantsed another boy, I'm thinking said boy's first reaction wouldn't be to call him a "perv!" He'd probably be pissed or embarrassed, yes, but that? Nah, it just doesn't seem likely.

4) "A"

In most Japanese things, "A" is used as an ending referring to a girl, and "O" would refer to a guy. Maka's name has an "A." She's a feminine character. Crona's name ends in an "A" as well. :yay:

Those are basically the best things I could find. I'll probably add more along the way, but this is it for now. If I had to make a headcanon or theory about it, I'd say that biologically Crona was born a girl but was never really found out if she was one or the other as a child due to lack of education. This may also explain why sometimes when she's asked "are you a boy or girl?", her first reply would be "I don't know..." or "I can't deal with something like that."

NOW FOR
IMMATURE SHIT NINE-YEAR-OLD SOUL EATER FANS SAY

1) "cORONA is a guy!1!!!! they use "he" not she!@11 :p"
Crona's sex is kept hidden in both the show and manga, Japanese version and English. However, when translating back to the English version in both of these, Atsushi Ohkubo realized that the English language did not have a gender-neutral pronoun to describe a character with both sexes or just no sex at all (he could have used "they", but it would have conflicted with her actions grammatically-speaking). He had to settle with "he" because calling Crona an "it", he said, would be offensive to the the character.

2) "if crona's a girl why is he all nervous around maka then??"
Maka is one of the first and only friends she ever had, and since Crona was pretty much told "nobody would ever love her" as a child, it seems fitting that Crona would be nervous about loosing her only true friend.

If you're referring to the scene where Crona said "I-I'm not so good at talking to girls", this could just mean she has a lack of social interaction with anyone and finds it hard to speak to them, or that she has a crush on Maka. "What?! Lesbians exist in anime?! Since when?!"

oh god dammit that's cute

3) "flat as a board"
Given she was malnourished as a child and sometimes refuses to eat as a teenager, it doesn't seem likely that she would grow breasts, because the fat needed for her chest would could to her stomach rather than there to fill in a sort of gap.

4) "Even if they uSE 'he'' as a pronoun, medusa still refers 2 Croma as her sun."
They actually never did. Medusa didn't refer to Crona as her daughter either. They were careful to say just "child" every time rather than using female or male names for your children.

Lel that's all for now. It's 3:30 AM. I'm tired. :moustache:
