My name says it all, I'm a fan of crossover fics. Started watching My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic when I read about it on /co/ and has been a fan ever seen. I'm also an otaku.

Why I no finish my fanfic · 4:27am Aug 21st, 2015

For the last few days, I've been trying to muster up the energy to sit down and restart my fanfics but with little to show for it. The euphoria, the exhilaration to write has been extinguished. Also, my love for My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic has also fallen by the wayside. I don't know if it's fandom burnout or outright depression. This started last year when some bad stuff that I don't want to give away too many details about happened to me IRL and I have been feeling kinda emotional numb so it might be more just being tired of ponies. I never finished any of my multipart stories before and I wanted Rebel Against the Night to be the first to be completed, but things don't always turn out the way we want. Someone told me to keep moving forward and don't change my routine or else I would never get out of this rut. So far, the results haven't been worked out as well as I have hoped, but I'll keep trying. Who knows, I might this out of this septic tank of melancholy I had the misfortune of falling into and landing face first, LOL. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears.

I'm sorry to hear that. Rebel Against the Night is really a spectacular fic.

However...if I'm honest, I have the same problem. I have a fic that I wanted to finish, and I knew I've got at least some people hyped up about, but I haven't been updating it for longer than Rebel Against the Night went silent. I also started a fic that I thought was going to be lots of fun (when I first conceived of it, I kept thinking up all sorts of puns that, including a few that played off the action that would be great. The Cutie Mark Crusaders are just great fuel for madness-fires.)

Stuff happened, probably not the on the level as the stuff that happened to you, but my living situation abruptly changed. ...For about two years. Well, it wasn't the change alone that caused it. I still wrote and updated chapters, with a little less frequency than before. Then I hit Chapter 16.

O, the perils of Chapter 16.

I was just about to get to the good part, too.

The problems were because I went away from my original plan as I thought up other ideas. Some of them seemed like they'd make better sense then my original plan, and removed a layer of complexity I didn't need, but....well, I really should have changed a certain scene or two leading up to it, as THAT part no longer made sense and I tried to make it fit. And it all came to a head at 16. I still had a plan, mind you, but the specifics had to get puzzled out, and it became harder and harder while other distractions crept in.

I think I planned to go back and finish it. If nothing else, I kind of made a side-story that was like a little interlude to the main story that represented a kind of alternate future to the story, and that is one chapter away from completion. It also seemed like a cool idea and when I first thought about it, I couldn't stop myself from writing about it. But, that's hard to write because some of the problems with the main story spill over into it.

So, I don't really have much to say about how to finish up the job.

..However, I have discovered a certain video on "What Nobody tells people who are beginners", that may be relevant.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try that deadline thing that was in the video.
