Normally I don't like to get involved in political BS, but considering the brutally censorious nature of this thing (since I am heavily anti-censorship) , I've stopped writing to spread awareness of this thing and try to ensure that it doesn't pass.
The lack of coverage so close to the deadline is also something I find very disturbing; as the name implies, it is a trade agreement among several Pacific Rim countries; Brunei, Chile, New Zealand, Singapore, The United States, Australia, Peru, Vietnam, Malaysia, Mexico, Canada, and Japan with several other countries expressing interest.
Of course, that's just one of many issues it-but, it's a threat to internet freedom with the most pernicious aspects carried over from SOPPA, as well as the removal of internet privacy with constant surveillancehowever it will also endanger lives;
-Food will become less safe as certain safety regulations like pesticide levels, bacterial contamination, fecal exposure, toxic additives, non-edible fillers and the like stricter that 'international standards' (which most are) could be ruled as "illegal trade barriers".
-Fracking; The Department of Energy will lose its authority to regulate natural gas to any TPP nation.
-Jobs; U.S. Corporations will get special foreign-investigator protections to limit the cost and risk of relocating our factories into lower-wage that sign onto this agreement.
-Drug Prices; Larger pharmaceutical companies will be given years of monopoly on pricing on each of their patents and have the power to block the distribution of cheaper generic drugs.
-Of course this will allow those in Wall Street and other financial giants in other TPP countries will make a killing (both literally and figuratively with the lower health standards)
-In terms of public services TPP rules will limit government regulation of public services such as utilities (electricity, natural gas, water, telephone services, and sewage systems), transportation, and education-including restricting policies meant to ensure broad or universal access to these needs.
What You Can Do;
Contact your state or government representative and let them know that you are against it, contact youtubers you may enjoy (personally I feel like taking it a step further and contacted even those I DON'T enjoy with large fanbases to let them know how this is going to screw them over so they can get the word out), you can also spread awareness of this to people you may know on facebook, tumblr, twitter, deviantART, here, etc.
On July 28th-31st there will be a ministerial meeting for the TPP in Muai, Hawaii-so we're running out of time to stop it.
