Cool Ideas: Rifts Equestria

Anypony here like Fallout Equestria? Do you love the fusion of magic and technology working together in a futuristic world full of magic, madness, and machines? Did you know that Fallout Equestria wasn't the first setting to do this right?

...you didn't know the last one, did you. Well maybe you had some other idea's in mind, but what I was referring to specifically was RIFTS rpg. That's right, the twenty year old rpg where magic met futuristic technology inside of an apocalypse setting. I mean where else would you get a setting where this cyborg

You don't usually see this kind of awesome from other settings, and thus why I've been wanting to write about a crossover for quite some time now. I have a pretty epic story in mind, and even though it will take some time longer before I can actually get to writing this, it is something that I wanted to bring up today.

Now let me explain what Rifts is, at least in part. The year was 2099 and the world had just gotten out of a golden age of technological growth. Cyborgs, implants, psychics, and even gene manipulation were all too common practice. Than suddenly the world ended. The apocalypse had arrived and was quite unlike what anyone could have expected. Giant rifts to other worlds, universes, and even to hell itself opened up and spewed forth aliens, monsters, and demons with reckless abandon. The earths ley lines surged with forgotten magic and the entire face of the world was destroyed, reorganized, and then forcefully shoved back together. Three hundred years pass and the world only just begins rebuilding.

The world was forever transformed by this event. So out of what's been rebuilt so far, there is the human empire known as the Coalition States, the various cities of magic that had popped up around the globe, and even a country chalk full of vampires. So this world is understandably having a hard time finding peace. The worst part is that new rifts will continuously open up, bringing in more creatures, monsters, and magic, although not anywhere near the scale as what happened during the apocalypse.

So now you understand what Rifts is. Lets see how it could be applied to a ponyverse.

Well the easiest answer would be to have ponies enter Rifts Earth, see the damage, the chaos, the madness, and try to make sense of it all. And hey, this is a setting where they could find a place to fit in... so long as they avoid the Coalition like the plague, humans be racist yo. But that's too simple for my tastes.

Instead I want to see what happens on the other side of that particular rift. I want to see what happens to an Equestria devastated by these rifts, where new magic, demons, and super warriors from an alternate universe move in. I want to see what happens to the masses of humans, giant bug men, and chuthulu as they try to find their place in this world once ruled by ponies. I want to see the ponies struggle with the aliens, with hardships beyond imagination, and devastation the likes of which they had never seen. I want to see a Rifts Equestria.
