Critics: Helpful or Menace · 1:30am Jun 22nd, 2015
So I've seen some divisive ideas about critics and criticising in general. I have opinions about this and consider my rough draft to be just below.
Yes, that is my ugly face. Stop staring, it's rude!
Anyway, that video mostly focused on how to be a good fan fiction critic but I left out the appropriate point-of-view for the author. My basic thought process follows some old ideals, namely that there is no such thing as bad publicity. If someone takes the time to review your work then they felt it was a necessary venture and, good or bad, it will draw in a larger audience. This is important as a bad critic should be called out only when he/she fails to do his/her job right and, if that's the case, your audience should already notice what's wrong.
Now I should probably get to that clickbait title already. Do I think that critics are good or bad? A bit of both. A good critic will tell a content creator what was good, bad, and was unnecessary. A bad critic usually just wants attention and doesn't care how that is achieved.
I made a reference to the Nostalgia Critic in that video and claimed that bad critics think that's how you're supposed to do it. The Nostalgia Critic is a good critic and his character works because he's consistent. He rips apart things he likes and dislikes unapologetically but he (almost) always ends his reviews with something positive about the experience.
I can't keep a single thought on track to save my life. There isn't really any lesson here just a guy with some thoughts that basically come down to stop being mean to each other. There's only so many ways that I can say that.
Well, until next time!
