What I usually do for a writer's block is writing a one-shot. I start out with an idea where I think "Huh, what would happen if..." etc. If I think the idea is creative or funny, or if I just want to see where it takes me, I write it down. I start with a basic plot and keep going along with the story using my knowledge of the characters to tell me how they would react in the situation. This way, I don't have to think too hard about a plot, I get my brain juices flowing, I can practice writing while simultaneously not having to worry about the story too much, and it doesn't matter if people like it or not; It's just for kicks!
A one-shot, one-chapter story which the author may or may not be taking too seriously, is very helpful. The writing can help you practice your skills as an author without worrying too much about the actual content. I hope this helps.
