Equestria Girls: The Instruments

So.

I noticed that the fandom is still upset about a few things in rainbow rocks. Mainly the plot holes. I think I've already pieced it together, and since i see no one else is pointing this out,* I decided to say it myself.

This week I want to tackle the fuss about the Instuments and why the main six (seven?) conveniently have them at the ready.

The main problem everyone has, is that all of the main characters have the miraculous ability to play instruments. everyone seems to ask "WHY?! WHY IS RAINBOW DASH PLAYING THE GUITAR?! WHEN DID ANY OF THEM LEARN TO DO ANY OF THIS?! THIS WAS NOT IN THE FIRST MOVIE! IF THEY WERE ABLE TO DO THAT, THEN WHY DID THEY USE A CD PLAYER FOR 'Helping twilight win the crown'?!"

My answer is simple, and makes a lot of sense.

Now stand with me. WHAT IF we assumed that canterlot high required you to learn an instrument?

Now, i don't have any definitive proof that it is a thing, but if we just assume, and all the pieces fit, wouldn't it be a correct answer?

here's a scenario: your in history class. for the past week or so your class learned about a specific place. we'll call it 'X'. Then, you get a test on the history of X. one of the questions is "why did X attack another country?" and you KNOW the other country was well know for its excellent food production. and that the citizens of X were dying of hunger. Then the obvious answer is "they attacked for food, doh!" but here's the thing...you don't have proof. all you did was ASSUME based of circumstances and all the pieces just fell into place. I'm certain you didn't tape a hand-written primary source to the test. you probably got smart and guessed. and guess what? you got it right!

This is basically the same thing. I'm looking at the circumstances and making an educated guess. your testing me and I'm just guessing the answers. Well, if I'm right, then all the "problems" should fit into place, right? lets try it.

IF the school requires you to learn an instrument, then the first thing is if this matches anything in real life. after all, equestria girls is supposed to be "if ponies came to earth". Well, yeah. A lot of schools require this**. and oddly enough most of those schools let you choose the instrument**. This means we get a bit more leverage, seeing as almost every student in EG isn't playing the same instrument. which brings me to the next piece...

IF the school requires you to learn an instrument, then every student would have one, right? well, every SUCCESSFUL student that is. i mean, come on. assuming it does, then any student who doesn't play one would be failing or showing signs of failing, right? Well, yeah. the only ones we see without any form of instrument are snips, snails, and twilight. our lovely princess doesn't count because she DOESN'T GO TO THAT SCHOOL. so that leaves the question of "does your voice count as an instrument?" if yes, then snips ans snails are in the clear. if no, then they must not be the most successful students. do me a favor. google image search them in EG. tell me if they look like passing students to you. anyways...

IF the school requires you to learn an instrument, and we get to choose it, then it must fit the personality/character, right? Well, yeah. if you pay attention anyone who wasn't shown to use an instrument in the first movie or has a cutie mark in equestria to prove that they can use that instrument, checks out. basically, characters like Bulk and Derpy have instruments that fit their personality. they are use as gag characters and it would make sense if the instruments are just there to increase the comic relief value. then we have the obvious Trixy. i say obvious, because her sole part is to be flashy and the center of attention. If what she uses fits that, then...well...you get it. The last ones we have left to cover are the main 6
1) Lets start with an easy one, Twilight. SHE HAS NO INSTRUMENT! SHE JUST FRICKING SINGS!!!!!!
2)Next up is Rainbow dash. this one is odd because it pretty much sets up the rest for the others. so, here:

No matter where you are in the fandom. you cant deny that rainbow dash is awesome. her whole purpose is to be awesome and her goal is to be awesome. she is required to learn an instrument, and she picks the most awesome of them all. the electric guitar.when looking at it from a non-musician perspective the electric guitar basically shouts "I'M F*** AWESOME! PICK ME AND YOU'LL BE AWESOME TOO!!!!!!!"

...so, yea. that's why.
3) Now that rainbow dash is out there, we might as well do Applejack. she's just like Rainbow dash, just a little different. and that speaks well for their instruments. now, i know that some professional kazoo player is going to read this and name all of the infinite ways a bass and a guitar are different. and that just what i need. To the eyes of someone out of your musical circle of knowledge, they look very similar. AJ's bass is even electric, like RD's! and they are played in a manner that looks VERY similar. and just like the characters, the instruments fit them perfectly. AJ and RD seem to be similar on the outside. but once you learn about them, you see all of the ways they are different. this is why AJ's instrument makes sense.
4)if we're going with themes of personality, then Rarity is next. if you didn't see her short, then you might not know she chose the grand piano. this fits because she is, as a pony and human, elegant. one of the most elegant instruments is the Piano**. no, not the electric piano with 1000 settings. an actual piano. she only switched to the current instrument because the grand piano was to heavy to carry around. yeah. the only difference i see is that she, when holding the instrument, has to play the piano vertically, instead of horizontally. this can cause some quick initial confusion, but can be quickly fixed. not to mention, her instrument now kinda looks like AJ's and RD's, making her fit in with the crowd better.
5)Ugh. Pinkie. don't get me wrong, but she kinda is hard to explain. its not much a matter f "why can she play the drums" but more of "why IS she playing the drums" she's shown the ability to play 10 instruments at once in pastel horse land, and i wouldn't be surprised if she could do it in hairless ape land. the reason she's doing the drums, is a bit complex. here:

in equestria, pinkie has AMAZING control over her whole body. she can use her hair like an extra hoof! it would make sense if, in canterlot high, she was ambidextrous. which is one of RD's requirements for a drummer. able to use both hands, natural rhythm, and energy. now I'm going to save you all some time and just say she is full of energy. and her natural rhythm is kinda given to us in the fact that most songs come from her. there. a good drummer.

6)Fluttershy....? yea, um. i don't have much on this one, so just listen. She is a quiet individual with many talents that are yet to be discovered. she can sew. she can sing. I'm willing to bet she knows more about apple farming than she lets on. she apparently can fly pretty fast, as shown in "hurricane fluttershy", and can be horrifying if given the chance. i wouldn't be surprised if she had musical talent. her instrument, like her, is quiet and simple. she can hide her musical talent easily with it. this idea is kinda proven when rainbow dash tells sunset shimmer that she can help fluttershy with backup vocals. in the human wold, she doesn't want to be noticed and even need someone to cover her up in BACKUP. so the instrument kinda fits her personality. 'nuff said.

...so yeah. the instruments seem to be in place.

...and that's pretty much it. everything seems in place. so its safe to assume the school DOES require an instrument. I hope your satisfied. please leave a comment of what you think of my "proven" theory, or if you have any evidence to throw in my face.
