Boss of the Week #1: Majora · 5:41am Feb 13th, 2015
From now on, every Friday, I'll tell you all about a video game boss that I just want to talk about. Some of them you may know. Others, you may never have heard of (insert hipster joke here). It's my hope that I'll be able to spread a little bit of awareness of games that I've played that aren't as popular as they probably should be. All the same, these are powerful foes that I've encountered in gaming that I can't help but love. Now, let's get started, shall we?
In tribute to the release of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D today, the first boss I'm talking about is Majora, the final boss of Majora's Mask.
This demented being seeks nothing less than the complete destruction of the land of Termina. As many of you no doubt know, he does this by possessing an imp-like creature called Skull Kid, who uses Majora's power to send the moon crashing into the humble hamlet of Clock Town.
Majora's origins are shrouded in mystery. All we learn about the being is that Majora's Mask was used by a dark tribe in profane hexing rituals. When the power of the mask became too much, they hid it away, only for it to be found by the Happy Mask Salesman, who enlists Link to get it back from Skull Kid, who stole it from the salesman.
Battling Majora is like an acid trip with one too many strips. The first phase has you fighting a tentacle monster, the second sees you facing a hyperactive dancing machine that could give Pinkie Pie a run for her money, and the third phase is almost fetishistic in its appearance.
"But, Lycaon, aren't you going to talk about how you fight the boss?"
I'll admit, I never actually fought Majora myself, though I've seen plenty of it to know how f**ked up this thing is. Next week, I'll talk about a boss I've actually fought. I promise it'll be much more detailed. Here's a hint: tell me if you guys have heard of MadWorld before.
