Why do these stories make it to the featured box?

I've been noticing quite a few stories recently that have a decent idea for a plot but are written very poorly. I'm pretty sure if people would stop and take time to read their stories out loud much of this could be avoided. The same standard should be applied to anything else people write especially Youtube comments. If ya'll could do that for me that'd be great. It would significantly help in diminishing the feeling that I'm surrounded by autistic children.
