Coming back to Fimfiction and addressing bullies · 8:56pm Jan 31st, 2015
I'm back I guess. I had some time to cool down, finished my first term in University and started my next term. It may be a while before I start writing again, but I decided that a few bad people are not gonna stop me. It was never the bad reviews that got me down, because constructive criticism is welcome, especially since I have only ever written one fan fic on here. It was the people who were being rude.
Not many will see this but something important needs to be addressed on here. There are thousands of stories on here. Some good, some bad, but all had effort put into them. My story was definitely not the best, but it was also not the worst, but because of one small detail (that I had addressed in the story but no one cared to remember or look), I was hurt by people who decided not only to attack my story, but me as a person.
Everyone seems to forget that there is an actual person behind the screen. Just because you don't like a story, it doesn't give you the right to attack a person and say hurtful things. It seems that this is becoming more of a problem in a fandom where it revolves around friendship, love and kindness. When did that change? Yeah, there are still plenty of bronies and pegasisters who follow this, but it seems that there are now more people who like to attack each other in the fandom.
As you all may remember, this article was posted back in December: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2877190/Teenage-Little-Pony-fan-posted-heartbreaking-YouTube-video-APOLOGISING-internet-trolls-tormented-days-threw-train.html
It describes a brony who committed suicide because he was tormented online over his fan fiction. This is a serious issue that could have been prevented, and it could happen again to any one of us. People seem to forget how much words can hurt people. Some may think of it as a "joke", but this is no laughing matter. If things don't change, we may be faced with more tragedy in the brony community.
This is not meant to seem like a rant. This is meant to be a reminder to those who think it's okay to attack people online because you're "anonymous", that just because you can't see the person, doesn't mean they aren't there and no longer have feelings. Everyone should be treated equally no matter of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, etc. It seems though that sometimes we forget this. Just remember, think before you type. You could even save a life.
Well, whenever you start up again, and if you still want an editor, feel free to ping me a message. Whilst I'm sorry to say that I can't remember what you wrote, the fact that you're one of the dozen people I've ever added to my "follow" list tells me that I must have liked it a lot.
Better luck with the trolls this time.
Also, just to notify you: this fandom was born on 4chan. It was never loving or kind, but it's getting more so as time goes on.
