I'm a rising author that has taken an interest in MLP stories. I find it difficult to write without a story being realistic in personalities.

I want to right a story with Chrysalis and Twilight, but not the cliche romance. I want an adventure, but I need a catalyst. Some big villain to initiate something. I have everything else in mind, just not a big event.

Well, if you're still thinking about it, there are lots of options for villains. You could have Tirek escape again and try something more complex this time because being straightforward didn't work last time or maybe Sombra isn't really destroyed or someone finds another artifact from the same source as the Alicorn Amulet or just make up your own.

3906999 Wow um... way to go google... 16 weeks later I get an email saying you have replied to my blog... I am soooo sorry about this. I want to thank you for your comment and the fact you have replied to me. So I ask you, would Twilight being affected by her encounter with Dark Magic from her duel with Sombra seem too well used, or is it fresh? I don't see meany of them, and the one's I have found are eh.

I've seen it around. But the key to making it fresh would be to do something different with the idea, rather than for the idea itself to need to be new.

I'm not sure I ever actually read any of them. I know I've seen the idea in some plot summaries for fics, though, where using Sombra's dark magic led to emotional instability for Twilight or left her struggling against possession by his spirit or whatever. I think some of them used it as an excuse for Evil Twilight. I don't think any of them involved her teaming up with Chrysalis.

Sorry I can't give you more specifics, it's been a while since I saw such a story.

4164507 Okay okay, what about this. Dark magic is by most usual fantasy accounts, "addictive." The extended use corrupts the soul, and keeps the user wanting to use it again, making it a difficult trap to escape from.

Sounds fine for a plot point. What's really going to matter is execution, if that makes sense. Super Mario Bros (the game) and Star Wars both revolve around a formerly normal person leaving their home world behind and rescuing a captured princess, but they're very different.
