Yep, I Think I Found My Calling · 3:25am Jan 3rd, 2015

I love horror. Horror stories, horror movies, horror songs. I love the stuff hinges on my mind and keep up at night. But most of all, I love how horror is created, how a horror movie is shot and passed, how the words of Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe woven the thread of fear and tension.

And today I realized something, I love writing horror. It was something that appeared first into the more serious scenes of Burning Down The House and later developed more in The Fast and The Purple where I had a blast writing that middle part when shit hits the fan. And now as I sit here writing Creatures of the Night, I once again began to feel ecstatic as I describe my take on the things that go bump in the night, the monster beneath your bad or inside the closet.

Here, for you Alex and John that are the only ones that read my blogs. Have a look.

It didn’t took long for Twinkle to fall asleep. Leaving her completely defenseless against the horror beneath her bed.

Shadows stirred and shifted like a malleable blob of pure darkness. Slowly it crawled from underneath the bed, raising little by little until it was a tower of darkness that reached to the ceiling.

The Shadows stood still for a minute, its only movement being the insides that continued to shift and move, as if it was watching little Twinkle Star sleep. Savoring her last moments of peace before it drowns her into its darkness, taking her to a place where no one will find her, a place with no sun or warmth, and a fate worse than dead.

Suddenly, the Shadows expanded, covering most of the room except for the area where Twinkle’s bed was. It slowly closed down on her, little by little like a predator playing with its prey. Only the space where Twinkle lay now remained, thousand of skeletal hands popped from the edge of the darkness, each rattling, eager to touch her body, to feel her warm, caress her soft fur and mane.

I like picking out voices in my head for horror. When I get tired of Morgan Freeman (he's good for porn, too) I pick out different people's voices. Wayne June, narrator of Darkest Dungeon (game), is my new favorite to imagine in my head when I read horror stories.
