A Pet Peeve of Mine

Okay, anyone who follows MythrilMoth knows he does these "Pet Peeves of Fiction" every so often. I wanted to share one of mine.

Idiot Rainbow Dash.

I think Rainbow is FAR from stupid. She may not be the most bookish mare around, but the episode "Testing, Testing, 1, 2, 3!" gave Rainbow the personality quirk of constantly observing her surroundings while she's flying. And let's face it, that's pretty much all the time. This is actually quite justifiable in that if you don't know your surroundings as they change, you could collide with something and fall to the ground, and die. Ideally, she would also have to have an intimate understanding of the physics of flight, which are complex and require the right mind to understand. If Rainbow wants to be a Wonderbolt, she HAS to know her capabilities and limitations based on physics and herself.

Rainbow's main flaws are her arrogance and her brashness. Neither of these have anything to do with actual intelligence.

Now, let's move to Human fics. Everyone agrees Rainbow's on the soccer team. Well, either that or track. But the problem?

Most still paint her as a C-average jock!

Now, I never was involved in any sport aside from playing soccer when I was 8--and that was independent of school activities--but I'm pretty sure one needs to keep their grades up in order to stay in many school clubs, especially sports and cheerleading. So someone please clarify whether this is actually true, at least in America.

In the meantime, I'm gonna ignore Idiot Dash. Because I think it's uncharacteristic given the above episode.
