More unnecessary Eurovision trivia · 2:05pm Jun 12th, 2012
So, I was looking over my comment on the latest "L'amore è femmina" chapter, and I realized I haven't actually mentioned yet how the other songs that named my fanfic fared at the contest, other than some passing remarks on whether they made it out of the semis or not. As a self-proclaimed Eurovision anorak (that's "Eurovision geek" in our terms), this will not stand.
Love Will Set You Free: 25th in the final, 12 points (shame on you, Europe!)
Sound of Our Hearts: 10th in the first semi, 52 points; 24th in the final, 19 points
När jag blundar: 12th in the first semi, 41 points, not qualified for the final (again, shame on you!)
Echo (You and I): 22nd in the final, 21 points
Crno i belo: 9th in the second semi, 53 points; 13th in the final, 71 points
Kuula: 4th in the second semi, 100 points; 6th in the final, 120 points
Quédate conmigo: 10th in the final, 97 points
Don't Close Your Eyes: 18th (and last) in the second semi, 22 points (ouch!)
When the Music Dies: 4th in the final, 150 points
Standing Still: 8th in the final, 110 points (third top 10 in a row for Germany. Are we finally getting the hang of it?)
Never Forget: 8th in the first semi, 75 points; 20th in the final, 46 points
Unbreakable: 11th in the first semi, 45 points, not qualified for the final
Party for Everybody: 1st in the first semi, 152 points; 2nd in the final, 259 points (more than the last two winners got!)
You and Me: 15th in the second semi, 35 points (Germany did its best to get you out of there, but to no avail. Eighth year in a row as a non-qualifier for the Netherlands)
L'amore è femmina (Out of Love): 9th in the final, 101 points
Suus: 2nd in the first semi, 146 points; 5th in the final, 146 points (nice coincidence there)
Nije ljubav stvar: 2nd in the second semi, 159 points; 3rd in the final, 214 points
For those unfamiliar with the competition (why are you reading this? ;) ): the host country (Azerbaijan this year) and the "Big Five" (the five biggest financial contributors to the European Broadcasting Union, which is responsible for this whole affair: Italy, France, Spain, Germany and the UK) are automatically qualified for the final. All other participants go through two semi-finals, each of which contributes 10 more songs for the final. More data to be found here.
