Top 5 Best Unfinished Stories · 11:10pm Aug 1st, 2014
So, in one of my earlier blogs I said that my favorite stories are whatever is in my "Favorites" list. Well, I figured that was kind of a lazy answer so I decided to make a list. However, my list would consist of stories that are that are both finished and unfinished so I decided to make two different lists. This first one is for stories that have yet to be completed. I'm just going to give some brief thoughts on them.
My Little Pony: Recasted by The Fiery Joker-I'm afraid the author probably isn't going to finish this one. However, don't let this dissuade you from reading what's there. It's an alternate Mane 6 story with everypony except Twilight being replaced with an OC stallion character. The OC's are actually pretty well thought out and given their own personalities and hobbies rather than just be clones of the former Mane 6. The author wrote the morals around the chapters based on life lessons he needed to learn or is still learning which makes for some interesting premises and adventures. While, it's be nice if the writer would pick up where he left off, what we have now is definitely worth reading.
The Wonder Years by Seether00-This one is still in the early chapters but the set up so far has been pretty interesting. Rainbow Dash finds herself left as the captain of the Wonderbolts with only her old rival, Lightning Dust, walking sexual harassment case, Cloudkicker, and a hyper Pegasus, Surprise, as her only senior staff. Meanwhile, Scootaloo and some other cadets are forced through the Wonderbolts rigorous training program. RD finds the fate of the Wonderbolts on the line as she needs to whip her recruits into shape or get shut down. This story is hilarious. The interaction between RD, Lightning Dust, and Cloudkicker are easily the best part. The story really balances the humor with the plot to make a good story that remembers to keep you entertained as well. If I had one complaint, I've never been too comfortable with swearing in MLP related stuff and I'm not lying when I call Cloudkicker a walking sexual harassment case. However, the writer is smart enough to far with the former or anywhere uncomfortable with the latter. Overall, it's a fun story with a good plot so far and hopefully it keeps up the good work.
The Rock Farmer's Daughter by Sketcha-Holic-So what would happen if Pinkie Pie never saw the Sonic Rainboom as a filly? Apparently, she'd grow up to be a grouchy rock farmer still living with her parents. But wait, wouldn't Cheese Sandwich also be affected? Why, yes. Yes, he would. He'd become a vagabond who refuses to face his past. Sound cliche? Sure. Is it overdone? Nnnoooooppe. While the characters do have emotional baggage it never feels like they are broody about it. The relationship between Cheese and Pinkie also seems to grow at a reasonable pace. The story does a good job on focusing on the development of these two rather than try to force a romance between the two. The rest of the Pie family is also pretty interest and portrayed as a family that while not the most sociable, still cares for each other. It's a sweet story that I always look forward to reading when I see an update.
Sunset of Time by Albinocorn-Grr, I had such a hard time trying to pick what should go in these last two spots! However, there can be only one top dog so someone has to be second. But that doesn't mean this story isn't awesome! Far from it. In fact, this story is very awesome. The future is destroyed by a mysterious force and Sunset Shimmer, Twilight Sparkle's personal pupil, needs to go back in time to get a trio of mysterious relics called the Dark Regalia. What results in a hectic adventure involving, dark magic, griffon assassins, and Sunset being haunted by a past she can't remember. Sunset's portrayal in this story is just great and her personal conflict with her memories as well as the outer conflict of trying to save the future are equally compelling. The Mane 6 and Spike are also portrayed pretty well in this story and I can't wait for the author's next update.
Bad Future Crusaders by TonicPlotter-Well, here we are. My #1 unfinished story. I don't think I've ever been so engrossed in a fanfic like I am with this one. Even when a chapter seemingly starts off dull it finds a way to grab my attention and pull me back in. The story revolves around a grown up CMC trying to reunite after years of separation. However, they find themselves hunted by both a mysterious cloaked pony as well as the government of Queen Twilight who is currently Equestria's tyrant. I'm not usually interested in evil Twilight stories and I even put off reading it, but once I started I could hardly put it down. The CMC is written really well and it's always exciting to learn what happened to them in the years that they've been apart. The way the rest of the world works under Queen Twilight's rule is also really interesting to discover. None of the main characters were left unscathed by the events that led to Twilight's takeover and I absolutely love learning about each character and what happened to them. This is a must read in my opinion and I hope the next update isn't too far off.
So, yeah, that's my top 5 unfinished stories. If you haven't read any of these than be sure to check them out. I don't think you'll regret it. I'm going to post my top 5 finished stories next week.
