Thoughts On RWBY Volume 2: Chapter 1 · 1:56pm Jul 28th, 2014
RWBY Volume 2 is out and I thought that I'd share my thoughts with you! I've never really done anything like this before, but I really enjoy RWBY and thought that I'd give it a shot. This is just what I think of it, feel free to agree or disagree with me as you please. This is probably just going to be me fangirling over it honestly.
Chapter 1 - Best Day Ever
The first thing that we have is the introduction of Mercury and Emerald who we had gotten to see briefly at the end of Volume 1 standing on either side of Cinder. Then there was the indication that not everything is good at the base. The little argument between Cinder and Roman showed that Roman might not be quite so happy with what's going on, but it's probably too early to make any assumptions on that. It was interesting to find out that Roman isn't really in on what's going on.
When we got to see the main cast we were greeted by a notebook that belonged to Blake. There was a drawing of what looked like Adam maybe? Then of course there was the most epic food fight ever. The subtle build up to it was nice with Yang catching the food in her mouth, but after making her bad pun getting hit with an apple. Then she returned the favor. After this though we go outside to Sun and a new character who we saw with Yang in the promo. Behind them you could see the food fight escalating quickly which was a nice touch. Their conversation was funny as well as their contrasting facial expressions as they walked through the door. I really liked the joke weapons that they had for all the characters. All of them were really cool, but as for personal favorites it would have to be the watermelon hammer and the swordfish lance. I am still wondering however why there was a swordfish in the lunch room. Another thing that I really liked was the use of the characters various powers in this. Pyrrha using her polarity on the soda cans was really cool. Ruby's comeback with her using her speed to create the tornado to counter it was equally amazing. The animation for the sequence where Glynda came in and had to clean everything up was also really well done.
Now for some side notes. I liked that they were able to fill in the background silhouettes with actual people. Then there was that they changed it from episode to chapter which I found interesting. I suppose it does make sense as a book could be referred to as a volume and it's various parts would then be chapters, but that's probably just overthinking it.
Overall I really enjoyed Volume 2's debut and I can't wait to see more of it.
