I tried again today, I took a lance from one of the guards and pierced my own heart. As before, the colors bleed and faded from the world as time slowed. I could see the throne room as the guards panicked almost frozen in time. It never occurred to me before, but this was the first time I've ever attempted one of my little experiments in front of Luna. She seemed more distraught than I had expected her to be, the fear and rage in her eyes bore into me. I could almost hear her pleas in my mind, "How darist you abandon us while we still need you so!" Never shall I attempt to end my life in front of her again. Never again.
As the blinding light engulfed the grim scene as so many times before, I blinked and found myself seated upon my throne mere moments prior to the event as though it was just a fleeting thought. As I sighed and turned to my dear sister, she still had that same rage and fear on her face. Did she see? Was she able to actually remember where countless others before had no accounts of the gruesome scene like that had just occurred?
I could see her shake on the edge of lunging, her eyes transfixed on the lance. The very lance from the guard I borrowed just a moment ago.
"Luna? Are you alright? You look troubled?" I asked.
She looked at me obviously uncertain what to say. I could tell now had indeed remembered but was apparently struggling to make sense of what had just occurred.
"We don't know dearest sister. Thine eyes have seen what can not be true and yet my heart races as though it hast just occurred.", Luna stammered. Thinking fast I came up with the only explanation I could muster that she might believe.
"When was the last time you slept dear sister? If I recall this is the second day the court has been graced with your presence? Could you be over taxing yourself?" I gave her a concerned smile, easy to do when hiding a secret like this.
"Three nights and two days." I could see her visibly sigh as she was coming to the conclusion I hoped. "A waking dream I suppose." Luna stood from her throne. "I fear I must turn in for the day. Good day, my dear.. dear loved.. sister." There was a moment of hesitation between us before she turned to retire to her chambers.
Perhaps once she has lived for a thousand more years I will be able to speak with her about this. Then perhaps, together we can unravel the source of our longevity and apparent immortality.
For now, I will remain eternally immortal alone.
