    Writing is hard!

Writing is why I’m here. Other people’s writing, not mine. I joined FimFiction because I wanted to comment on the amazing work I’d been reading for months. Hopefully some of my comments have helped authors in some way.

    Well, that's a surprise!

I've never really been a fan of character personality tests.

Actually, I've never really been a fan of character personality test results. I always turn out to be the bookish, bland, nerdy one.

    What?

Writing is why I’m here. Other people’s writing, not mine. I joined FimFiction because I wanted to comment on the amazing work I’d been reading for months. Hopefully some of my comments have helped authors in some way.

I’m not an author and don’t intend to ever call myself one, but I’ve been struck with a hitherto unknown feeling of inspiration and decided to write something of my own. I’m more or less done with a short story which I started on a week and a half ago, and in that time I’ve managed to commit to screen a total of 3700 words. That’s one of the biggest lumps of prose I’ve produced since school, and it’s renewed my respect for authors on here.

It’s a small number of words, compared to some of the fics I’ve seen and read around here. It seems to be fairly standard, 3000-5000 words is around the length of story I usually read, so I’m happy in that regard, but how do you guys manage to get more than that out? There can’t be room for such gargantuan ideas in people’s heads, and there must be some sort of super power that I missed out on somewhere…

Hopefully it’s something people will want to read but there’s no way of knowing that until I submit it. Reading Obselescence’s timely guide to criticism has helped a lot in preparing to handle any response to posting the story, and going through Ezn’s guide has really helped me tidy things up and introduced me to rules and tenets that I didn’t know existed. I’ve tried to follow the hints in there as best as I can, but there may still be a few things out of place.

I thought the tough part would be getting my ideas into words, but that part came surprisingly easily, albeit as slowly as Tartarus. It appears I am a bit of a juggins when it comes to naming things, and writing descriptions. I’m sure I’ll come up with something eventually. If I manage that I might even be able to finish going through this piece and submit it today! Won’t that be fun?
