My Headcanon Regarding Octavia · 12:58am May 24th, 2012

Octavia Allegreza was born in the city Veneighce (nicknamed The Floating City due to its placement on a lake). Her father was a high ranking banker in the merchant district while her mother worked in the house until she passed away while Octavia was a baby. Throughout her foalhood, her father continually pushed her to follow in his hoofsteps and become a banker like him; Octavia, however, was not at all interested in taking away money from hardworking ponies.

One fateful day, when she had reached the age of 17, she came across a preformance put on by the renowned cellist, Don Mezzo Forte. When she first heard him work his instrument like a true master, she was completely transported into an entirely different world. At that moment, she knew what she wanted to do. She pleaded to Mezzo to take her in as a student, a request that he continually denied. However, Octavia would not take no for an answer and, after much more begging, Forte took her in.

As she learned the basics of playing the cello, Don Forte noticed that she was a great learner, almost never failing any of his excersises. Her sessions with him were always kept in secret, knowing that if he found out, her father would forbid her from seeing her teacher again. One day, Forte told Octavia that he was getting too old to continue his art. However, he could not find a pony to which he could pass down his knowledge to and continue carrying his name; that is, until Octavia came. As such, he resolved to pass down his cello, stating that she would become the next great master of the cello; Octavia accepted the gift without question.

However, her father soon found out about her secret lessons and he confronted his daughter about it. She told him that she did not want to spend her life swindling the poor ponies and taking away their homes if they can't pay for them. She wanted to make music instead; to entertain the populace. Her father did not at all accept his daughter's decision and threatened to disown her if she did not abandon her "foalish desires". Her answer came in the form of her leaving her home city and emigrating to Canterlot, the Kingdom's hub of the arts.

When she arrived, she had no money or food of which to speak, her only memory of home being Forte's cello. She wandered around the streets of Canterlot, homeless and starving. Thankfully, she was found by a rather compassionate mare, a foreigner such as Octavia who hailed from Maredrid. Her name was Beauty Brass and she took the Veneightian to her home and offered her food. Brass asked her where Octavia came across such a fine cello as the one she had been carrying. Octavia explained her story to the mare who treated her with kindness when nopony else would.

Brass told her about a band she was forming along with two other ponies that also hailed from the Outer Provinces. She offered Octavia a place in the band; all she had to do was play the cello for them. The gray mare agreed to her offer and met the other two ponies in the band. One was called Frederic Horsehoepin, a pianist from Prance and the other was Harpo, a harp player straight from the port of Preece (and younger brother to a certain lyre playing unicorn). She amazed the three musical ponies with her magnificent skills on the stringed instrument, so much so that she was quickly given a place in the band.

The rest, as they say, is history.
