Eurovision Semi 1 is done with... · 10:45pm May 22nd, 2012
...well, that was an interesting night. For the completely irrelevant record: Out of the five songs competing in semi 1 of this year's ESC that served as chapter titles for "Love Will Set You Free", three qualified: Sound of Our Hearts, Never Forget and Party for Everybody. När jag blundar and Unbreakable didn't make the cut, sadly.
Then the songs qualifying from this semi went and cluttered up the first half of the running order for the final. Except Jedward and that Moldovan guy, no one drew any starting number higher than 16 (admittedly, 14-16 were all given out tonight, and all of those are second half, but only just). Hungary are probably having a fit right now, having to go at #2, right after the United Kingdom. Ireland can celebrate their luck at getting this late a draw, as can Moldova, who will perform last on Saturday. The pairs of slots right next to Spain and Germany (who start at 19 and 20, respectively) are still free - so who'll draw that lucky 17, starting slot for the winners in 2006 and '07? And who will perform right after Roman?
Time will tell - a little less than 48 hours, to be precise, since semi 2 is on Thursday. That's the one with big fan favourite Sweden in it, as well as five different ballads in native tongues from ex-Yugoslavian countries.
Well, first ramble over. Let's see what the second semi brings - and then of course the big night awaits on Saturday.
