    PoNoWriMo :(

So Everfree happened. I had an absolutely fantastic time and met a bunch of fantastically awesome people. I also entered a speedwriting competition and then epically failed at both understanding the prompt and writing a one-shot. I am not a good one-shot writer. I write long stories. It's just my style.

    LAPTOP!

I'm actually writing this blog post as I'm writing the next chapter of Direction, jumping between the two when I get stuck on the chapter. That will probably be why it feels so disjointed.

Fun with stupid summer camp activities

It's nearly 1 AM and I'm working in the morning so I gotta be quick.

I had a little too much fun writing this last chapter, mostly because it gave me an opportunity to make fun of all the stupid things my camp counselors did when I first arrived at summer camp. I didn't actually make fun of too much of it, but I still definitely enjoyed myself a little more than I usually do.

Can you tell I'm not happy? I hope you can tell I'm not happy. I'm not happy. Did I tell you I'm not happy?

Okay, I've run out of ways to phrase that. Let's move on to the why.

A chapter update? *GASP* · 7:36am May 21st, 2012

Yeah, I'm back. I managed to only lose net 1 favoriter over the course of four weeks, which I find awesome. Thanks to all of you guys for sticking with the story for so long. In this blog post, instead of doing that thing where I complain about my life for the entire post, I'm actually going to talk about the story for once.

First off, the formatting for Jen's letter in the sixth chapter didn't translate well onto FiMFiction, so if you want to you can see the letter in its original formatting on Google Docs here.

So by now you should've figured out that this story is a bit more... political, for lack of a better term, than other shipfics. I'm sorry if that wasn't what you thought you were getting when you first started reading this fic, but it's long been my intention with this story to show Jack's (and really my) transformation from tolerance to acceptance. And yes, there is a difference.

I've had several moments when writing this where I've been tempted to have Twilight and Jack enter into a more serious relationship. I've been able to resist the temptation so far, but I got dangerously close near the end of the chapter when I had them meeting on a freaking bridge. Fortunately, Twilight was too disapproving of Jack's homophobia for anything to actually happen between them.

Finally, next chapter will feature Jack's welcoming party. We'll see what winds up happening with Pinkie Pie's antics and the other members of the Mane Six as they meet Jack for the first time. Also, there will be serious progression in Jack's attitude towards Lyra and Bon Bon, but that's all to be revealed (hopefully) next week.

Because I told myself that I was sticking to a release schedule, this chapter had a less rigorous amount of editing than usual. While I'm almost entirely certain there aren't any grammar or spelling mistakes, a few "everybody"s or the like might've slipped in there, and in general the quality of the writing might be a bit lower than normal. I apologize for the lateness (I said Sunday, and it's now 12:30 AM on Monday and I just put the chapter up) and the quality, but I think it's worth it to have this story continue after nearly six weeks.
