Dark Souls! · 6:03pm May 18th, 2012
I haven't been on or updating or anything in the last few days. I probably won't get much up this weekend and I wish I had a good excuse but honestly I've just been playing Dark Souls (the sort of sequel to Demon's Souls). It's the first time in a long time that I can say I've been addicted to a game. The game is difficult but fair. Death is always just around the corner. No matter how much you upgrade, skill and proper planning is always a deciding factor. The game tells you little so you have to figure out everything yourself (unless you use a guide but even then Dark Souls can be relentless). Because of that, every little bit of progress feels like a huge accomplishment.
Now there is one benefit to playing this game, the atmosphere is amazing. Seriously, everything in the game fits together so well. For writing it is incredibly helpful when trying to come up with ideas for monsters or locations. Also, the more I think about it, I can't help but feel that its predecessor (again Demon's Souls) had a huge subconscious influence on this story.
Still, I'm not even close to finishing the game (I never did beat the first one) and I really should not focus all of my time on it. I'll try to better balance playing and writing. In fact, I think I'll try and put up a sub-chapter today.
Oh, and as one last note: Whoever came up with the level design to Blighttown is downright evil.
