Thought- Somepony to Watch Over Me · 2:14pm Mar 14th, 2014
Ok, honestly, the only thing I can gather my thoughts on about this episode was Applejack. It's no secret I'm a huge fan of the farm pony, so this episode... displeased me. From my perspective, Applejack's over-protectiveness of Apple Bloom was far, far out of character. Let me put it this way- she trusts Apple Bloom to do her insane stunts and whatnot with her friend's while Cutie Mark Crusading, and she trusts her to venture into the Everfree Forest- ALONE- but she doesn't trust her to stay home alone for one measly day? Sorry if that's not the way you see it, but I'm just not buying it.
On the other hand, the humor was a little nice. Despite said issues, Applejack's baby-proofing stunts were pretty funny and a little Pinkie Pie-esqu. The action scene was also really awesome, from design to creature. Tiger-chimera is awesome.
The lesson didn't really resonate with me though. Both Applejack and Apple Bloom got off scot-free, the former after disobeying Granny Smith's instructions and putting the business in jeopardy, and the latter after making some really stupid decisions and nearly getting herself killed. And Apple Bloom also got her trust she was after once she had done that. No. That isn't cool, and it isn't true.
All in all, it was a rather decent episode as a whole, but I can't say I enjoyed it that much. The main redeeming qualities of this episode is the Fire Swamp, chimera, and gags in the end (and FYI I'm filing the CMC's cover up operation under gags. The "no song" moment as well). I'll give it a 2.75, lowest score yet to be given to an episode. Then again, I haven't gotten to Boast Busters or Griffon the Brush Off yet...
Thanks for reading everyone. See you next time!
