Thoughts- Hearts and Hooves Day · 7:59pm Feb 14th, 2014
Hey everyone! Happy Hearts and Hooves Day! In celebration (cause I don't have anything else to do to celebrate it) of the day, I'm doing a "Thoughts" post on Hearts and Hooves Day!
So, to start out with, this is another CMC episode, and that didn't really thrill me the first time I heard it. As a pleasant surprise, I really enjoyed it, as a result of the CMC, awkward humor nonwithstanding. The girls really meant well, but "things didn't turn out so well," as things often do around these three. The writers pulled off the "innocent young girls" thing rather well, cliched-ness aside. Apple Bloom's performance was my personal favorite, with the dynamic of the fact that this is her brother they're trying to ship. Yes I went there.
Next, the other stars of our show- Cheerilee and Big Mac. I WAS excited to have two background characters star in an episode, and these two didn't disappoint. Their constant love poison-induced exclamations were sufficiently vomit-inducing (and incredibly entertaining), I loved Cheerilee's expression when Sweetie Belle was talking to her about having no special somepony was priceless. Big Mac saying things other than "Eyup" and"Enope" is also generally entertaining, and this was the cream of the crop, for reasons that I've said before.
The Love Poison plot device I loved. Everything from the origin (there is something about the fact that Twilight seems to be spending her Hearts and Hooves Day walking around Ponyville reading books about love potions that is so endearing to me I can hardly put it into words), to the scenes where they were gathering the ingredients (they took... the color out of the rainbow... with a bucking VACUUM CLEANER! WHAT?), to the effects (Sorry I keep going back to this, but I just love how the pair acts and how everypony around them reacts to them). It's all so good, and I love it so much. I know someone out there will have ten excellent reasons why it's terrible and unimaginative it is, and I'll be happy to listen to them. I just won't caaaaaaaaaaare.
Finally the song. Man I loved this song. The jelly-obsessed guy, the concept of the song itself, and and Button Mash! Woo, Button Mash! Small thing but I liked it nonetheless. Especially if you've seen JanAnimations "Hearts and Hooves Day Deleted Scene." If you haven't go see it now, it's hilarious.
All right, so Hearts and Hooves Day- I give it a 4/5. Excellent character interactions, great song, and a healthy bit of humor made for a really good episode. Sorry if this "thoughts" was a little touch-and-go, it was hard to get my thoughts together today for some reason. Good Lord I apologize for that pun, that was awful and completely unintentional. Anyways, thanks for sticking through it. Thanks for reading, and I hope you all have a happy Valentine's Day!
