Race: Lovicorn.

Powers: The only spells they can do is create love, so basic spells such as levitation is impossible to them. They shoot hearts from their horns. It’s like the ‘Want it, Need it’ spell, expect the power doesn’t make ponies fall in love, but allows them to.

History: Lovicorns were around before Equestria was made. They had no town of their own since their job was to travel around helping ponies fall in love. The ones that stayed in a town for a long time were the old ones, or the new parents. The children would go to school until they had discovered their power, after that had happened, they would go and travel the world like the others. Many of the Lovicorns haven’t finished school, so they may not have much book smarts as other races, but find knowledge in other things.

Other races had accepted this race and treated them like they would any other. This went on years before the changelings had found this race. They captured most and took them to a hidden hive where they kept them as prisoners and fed off their love, making the changelings more powerful. Luckily the Alicorn king was able to over power the changeling Queen, and his guards had defeated her minions once they found the hive, which took a good while.

Sadly, the king assumed the lovicorns were helping the changelings, so his decision was to do the only thing he could: he put a curse on them to make sure no more lovicorns would be born and have a chance of helping the changelings again. The lovicorns tried to explain, but the king refused to listen and banished them all to a isolated area far from any town, and made laws where they stopped them from going near another race.

With no lovicorns to allow love to the ponies, they quickly fell into hatred, which led to war. Lovicorns slowly decressed in numbers, a fading memory, but hope was found when a prince, the king’s great, great, great grandson, fell in love with an lovicorn during the Great War, where he was badly injured. In beginning he had hated the lovicorn because of the old fable his great, great, great grandfather passed down, but he soon fell in love and found out the truth between them and the changelings.

The prince had a greater magic power than unicorns, as did every Alicorn, but still wasn’t strong enough to remove the curse, but his love made it possible for him to change a small bit of it: lovicorn babies would be possible once again, but the chances were low. Lovicorns had a greater chance of having lovicorn children, but it wouldn’t always work. In case the lovicorns died out, there was a %5 chance for the other races to have a lovicorn child so love would always be possible.

The prince tried to lift the law of banishing the lovicorns so they could join other towns, but once his love for an lovicorn was found out, he was stripped of his title by the elder Alicorns, and unless he wanted to spend the rest of his life in prison, he would have to break up with his love. He wanted to choose prison, but the lovicorn was able to convince him to break up with her. She couldn’t bear for him to be locked up for the rest of his life, so she left him.

The ex prince would settle with a royal mare, though he didn’t truly love her, but had a family. Long down this line, Prince Blueblood would be born.

Years later a Queen would lift this ancient law, allowing lovicorns to roam the Earth, she wanted to create a land of harmony and this was a step in that direction. The lovicorns were grateful, but they feared history would repeat so they would continue to spread their magic, but hidden, trying to go unnoticed.

This action allowed them to live in peace with the other races, but soon some unicorns would find out about their power and attempt to copy it, which would lead to love poison. But one unicorn would be able to master this love spell and he would teach it to Clover the Cleaver, who would use it to save the three races and create Equestria, but the powers origins were never revealed to the rest of the world.

Name: Ruby

Race: Lovicorn

Background: Ruby comes from a family of three: her father, mother, and her twin brother, Cast. Ruby has always been a good-hearted, sweet natured pony. Though her race wasn’t very big she had a few family members, and felt loved from all of them. Dur to the small number of her race her and her brother were home schooled by their parents. The parents had limited-knowledge in school subjects since they had to quit school and travel, but they did teach their children how to live off the land and defend themselves in case of trouble, which Ruby strongly believed wouldn’t be necessary.

Ruby gained her cutie mark when her parents took them to a nearby town to enjoy themselves. She was seven at the time, so she sought out to play with other foals. She happen to stumble upon a pair of fillies fighting over a doll. Ruby had never enjoyed fighting, not even when her brother fought with her. She felt sad, confused, and hurt by the fillies fighting. She wanted to help the fillies, but she couldn’t use the love magic that her parents could. She felt so hopeless.

Her wish to help the fillies became stronger with each hateful word the fillies threw at each other. Ruby closed her eyes, hoping that they would stop soon, and without realizing it she began to push her magical energy into her horn. Once she felt the energy, and realized what was happening, she focused on it and casted her first spell.

The spell helped the fillies relax and settle down. They soon realized how foolish they acted and started to play peacefully. Ruby felt so excited that she ran to find her parents, who soon pointed out Ruby’s cutie mark.

A week later her necessary stuff was packed and ready to go on her adventure, but she wasn’t. She didn’t want to leave her family, which was normal for most ponies, but her mother talked to her. “Ruby,” she said, “it is tradition for our kind to explore the world and spread our magic. Without us there wouldn’t be any love in this world. We need to spread it with everypony, and nonpony, that we can. Of course we don’t want you to go, and I’ll worry every night about you, but this will help you grow up into the wonderful mare I know you’ll be.”

The words from her mother helped her gain enough courage to travel. She gave her family one last hug before leaving to start her own life.

Trait/skills: Kind hearted, good natured, and patience with most ponies. Her mother taught her to cook and sew in case she needed to make her own clothes. Her travels have given her the ability to see the beauty of nature. She has gained many useful skills from doing odd jobs for money: building and fixing things with tools, plowing a field, and chopping wood with her mouth. She tries her best to make ponies feel happy.

Strength: Ever since her mother’s words, Ruby has been able to push aside any fears, worries, or sadness about her lifestyle away with the reminder that this is her responsibility to the world, and not many are lucky enough to live this life. She tries to see the good in everypony.

Weakness: While Ruby is happy to make other ponies happy, she sometimes feels lonely in her travels when she thinks about a special somepony and becomes depressed if she thinks too long on it. She trusts ponies too much, and has a ‘rose-colored’ view of the world, since the only violence she has heard of was her race’s history from long ago, but she believes that ponies aren’t like that anymore.

Love life: She would like a special somepony to share her life with, but she knows no stallion will be able to adopt her way of traveling. She only spends about a day--two at the most--in a town before she moves on. The only time she could spend longer was if she was too sick or injured to continue, pregnant, or too old to travel. She knows nopony could stand such a life since they would need money as well, friends, or something else that’d make it impossible for them to continue.

Dream: To spread as much of her magic as she can so everypony--and different species--can feel the joy of happiness, love, and acceptance without worrying about hate. She also wants to see her brother again, since the last time they saw each other was when they were seven.

Notes: Ruby has made a few close friends in a few towns. She has a high immune system so she doesn’t get sick a lot. Out of her family members she misses her brother the most since he was her best friend. Her favorite food is heart shaped cookies with pink frosting. Her and her brother were the first twins to be born in over five-hundred years, so they are seen as a miracle to their race.
