    The State of Affairs

Yikes. It's been a while, hasn't it? I hate these blogs, but I kinda feel guilty when I don't say anything, so please bear with me.

Rant time! Show vs. Tell: Why You Know People who are Doing it Terribly Wrong

It’s always depressing to see people give bad advice. It’s even more depressing to see people eat that bad advice up and say things like, 'This is really good and totally right!' Now, I don’t like starting arguments on the Internet, so I normally just shake my head and look the other way. But this is something I have seen more than a couple of times from people who have a greater audience than

    New Chapter and Related Apologies

New chapter is up! Twilight and Celestia are getting closer to the dragon kingdom now, but they still have a little something to go through before they get there. That little something may or may not include living, giant stone statues.

    Honest Words

She holds my hand with all the strength she has left, a bony grasp that shakes like a frightened child. I can hear her breathing, wet and rasping as if her lungs are filled with fluid—until I realise that they probably are. The oxygen machine next to me hisses, and I can hear shrill beeps from the other side of the bed. One and a half every second, a laughable imitation of a heartbeat. To me it

Story Recommendations (A Little News) · 11:46am Apr 18th, 2012

Greetings!

You guys like blog posts, right? You do? Oh, awesome! Well then, I may just continue! (My best friend is still in Europe. For the love of God I need human interaction D:)

Ok. There is a point to this, I swear. Unfortunately, the title of this little post has already given that away.

I have recently finished/been reading a collection of quite frankly amazing stories, and of these, I would like to tell you all just how amazing a couple of them are.

First off, l0x0r's Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying. This is an example of prose at its best. Sure it moves at the speed of a glacier or continental drift, but frankly, the beauty present in the description of even the most mundane, ordinary things make 20k word chapters seem short. How is the possible, you ask? Black magic? You would probably be right. The character development is sublime (season 1 canon Luna, though), and the dramatic tension gripping. I really cannot recommend the story enough.

Next up, Jetfire's It's a Dangerous Business, Going Out Your Door. I will start by saying that Lord of The Rings is my favourite piece of fiction in the history of man kind (The Road is a close second. Who'd have guessed?). In light of this, I may be slightly biased. Ah well. It's the internet! Who cares?! The world building in this story is spectacular and frankly inspiring to me as an author. And I swear this isn't because I am currently working on an adventure novella which includes an 'epic fantasy' interpretation of Equestria's history. No sir, not at all. (Oh yeah, for anyone that cares, APLH is actually finished, haha. It's just going through the slow and methodical process of editing now.) In other words, go read it (Dangerous Business, that is, haha). You won't be disappointed.

One final story, and that is The Price of Grace. It's a really cool interpretation of our favourite celestial deities' histories, and a great story to boot! Yet another fic I urge you all to give a shot!

Now I have finished Dangerous Business, I can finally get back to reading Project Horizons. I have to say, it might just be my favourite fanfic. Like... not a hyperbole, literal number 1 in my ridiculously long list of fanfics fighting for a position in the top ten, let alone top five. Project Horizons is just beyond amazing. I can't wait to get up to speed to where it currently is.

Oh, and one (really two) last thing(s) before I go, whose keen for the new Linkin Park album in June? This guy is! That and the finale this weekend. I know I for one can't wait to see how in hell's name they explain Princess Cadence. I have months of planning and conceptualisation resting on her, and I hate it!

Ah well. Back to world building/editing.

Stay awesome!

75412 Oh man, Project Horizons is just awesome, haha. If you do check those stories out, I hope you like em'! I sure know I do!

Not much to say, being a rather new-comer to your fics (looked at The Rising Moon first, and was about to write a huge critique comment on it, before I realized it was written all the way back in November AND your first piece out of them all...) except I'll check out your recommendations- I've only read a handful of fics, mostly do to my first exposure being cupcakes, and those few are either finished or won't see updates very often (cough Composure cough). Also, being a Price of Grace fan, I can say it and it's author could use some more- positive- attention. If only Sparkle had Device's fanbase size. Or even half of it, really :twilightsheepish:

84009 You looked at The Rising Moon?! Oh dude... I am so sorry! If it makes you feel any better, that and Octavia's Performance are scheduled to be sent to the moon in a few weeks when my new wave of stories start to come in. They are just too bad for words. It's safe to say I have been on a pretty steep learning curve, haha. Here's hoping I can continue to learn!

Composure is great, but I agree, waiting so long for updates isn't any fun what so ever! If you do check out any of the ones above, lemme know what you think!

84020
It could have been worse; at least Luna's one of my fav ponies...fighting with Celestia for second under Twilight. I'm going to put your others under 'Read later', as, being a nocturnal, I have to go places in two or three hours. And you'd better hope that learning curve is really steep! :twilightangry2:
Lol, anyway, Going out your front Door is bookmarked due to being on a separate website, and I can pretty much guarantee it'll be finished by sometime within the next 24 hours. I'll let you know how it goes (see if it can top my favorite fiction of all time- Eternal).

P.S. Out of curiosity, where'd you find your profile pic? Love it

[EDIT] I think it's safe to say most of us would love to send our first attempts at writing to the moon, though I have the luck of having lost mine. Doesn't stop me from wanting to kill every word that comes from this keyboard with fire :facehoof:

84026 If you want anything that I consider not to be God-awful, don't read anything before Perfect The Way You Are, haha. Even that one is pretty dodgy, but it was conceived and written in 5 hours, so for what it is it's ok.

I promise I have some cool stuff coming soon, though! Hahaha

As for my display pic, I'm on my ipad so I'll ask you to please forgive me for not supplying a link. But if you look at the picture carefully, you'll see the artist's DA account name. I was pretty stoked when she said I could use it! Haha.

84028
I can kinda relate to something conceived and written in a short amount of time; all of my writing for the time being is short stories, slowly improving on my quest to be the very best (that no one ever was). I'll look at Perfect and All paths, any comments regarding those will be in...well, their comments. Oh, NOW I see the DA account- I'll have to look at that, to (walking disaster when it comes to art, but love looking at what those that aren't make).

P.S. ipad? You lucky bastard. :rainbowkiss:

84029 That's a great place to start! I know it worked for me. And you used a pokemon reference, so you are now instantly 20% cooler in my book!

If you do check out those stories, I really hope you like them!

And yeah, I love me my iPad! Best birthday present to myself I've ever got! Haha.

84030
Well, they do call me Snorlax for a reas-yaaaaawwwwnnnn.....
Heh, anyhow, I'm sure they'll be good- though, to be honest- after my first taste of pony fan fiction- I DID flinch a little when I saw that All Paths was labeled dark, but it's good to have broad horizons, so I can only say one thing: Allons-y!

P.S. Is the iPad as good as the ads indicate? I've been considering saving up for one for awhile, but no one in this town I know has one, so a bit hard to find out :ajbemused:

84033 APLH is dark, but it's never really violent. So it's never gory or anything.

As for the iPad, I adore mine, haha. It's perfect for me with uni and everything. I don't have to take a laptop because I can access pdf's, take notes, etc, etc with it instead.

I can also load it up with pony to read as well! Haha

84056
Sounds kewl, now to save up for a few years while version after version come out :facehoof:

Oh, and Perfect the way you are review is up; had enough time for five thousandish words, now I only have thirty minutes left. It was worth it.

84056
Oh, and more curiosity; your bio says you're an 18 year old law student, my curiosity at other countries (I live in the U.S) leads me to wonder; are you newly studying law, does Australia have a shorter time in elementary through high school, or a third thing I'm not thinking of? If I sound intrusive, forgive me, just always enjoyed knowing all I could (Twilight IS my fav pony, after all),

84064 Yeah, I'm in first year law, haha. Or maybe I'm just a child prodigy who skipped three years of school. Who knows? :trollestia:

(Yeah, it's definitely not that one, haha)

84070
Hah, that'd be nice. Finish school before having to use a cane :twilightsheepish:

[EDIT] Alright, well I have to go now, so see ya. Also, if you want to contact me, either send me a message, or- if I'm not on at the specified times for more than a day or two- my bio has all the contact info I'm willing to put publicly out on the internet. I do my best to check email, so that's the best bet.

Until next time :moustache:
