My headcanon involving Lyra · 6:56pm Apr 14th, 2012
Lyra does not hail from Ponyville. In fact, she is from the port city of Preece, located in the Outer Provinces of Equestria (a group of cities far from the influence of Canterlot. Each city, aside from the usual Common Language, speaks their own dialect. Ex.: Veneightian for Veneighce, Maredridian for Maredrid, Preek for Preece.) She was born to Ship Right, a merchant sea captain, and Plucked Strings, an instrument maker. She also has a brother, Harpo Longstrings (the harp player in Octavia's ensemble.)
Throughout her foalhood, she had always been fascinated by the music played by the street preformers in the Main District. So much so that she began practicing on one of her mothers instruments, a lyre. Before she knew it, she discovered her special talent.
When she reached the age of twenty, sea serpents began infesting the Shining Sea, blocking off all trade between Equestria and the neighboring countries. While most of the other cities managed to find a way to support their economies, Preece had always relied on sea trade. As such, the city fell into a state of economic distress that affected every single inhabitant.
Wanting to seek out a better life, Lyra left the city and made her way towards the Inner Provinces, carrying only her lyre and as many bits as she could carry. She finally arrived at the small village of Ponyville where she met a friendly pony named Bon-Bon, who helped her settle into the city and grasp its culture, which was rather different from Preece's. They became the greatest of friends.
One day, while out playing her lyre in the park, a pony she had never met came up to her and complimented her music. He said his name was Blues, and that he was a musician as herself. BLues asked her if she would allow him to play a duet with her; a request that she accepted warmly. After their duet, Blues asked her (nervously I might add) if he could take her out to dinner. As the last time, Lyra said yes.
The date went spectaculary, and both Lyra and Blues formed a strong bond that has lasted for a while.
