Applejack's Family Mystery · 5:25am Sep 29th, 2013
I'm sorry that I haven't been around lately. I've been busy working my job and trying to get a better one. But anyways, I have been watching YouTube videos lately and I stumbled upon one that really peaked my interest.
And this got me thinking, for THE first time, about a little BIG matter in the series... Where is Applejack, Big Mac, and Apple Bloom's mother and father? They never appear in the series at all. Not even on day one. Why? Why are they not present in the series? It can't be that they're divorced because one of the parents would've took them with them. And it's shown on several occasions that they(including Granny Smith) had lived there their entire lives. So, maybe they left them? That seems unlikely since the rest of the family, including the extended members, are all very friendly and care for each other very much. So, it would stand to reason that they were very close to each other.
So what else is there? Well... perhaps they just up and left? Again, not likely since the family has a VERY profitable business selling their produce to the townsponies. And not only that but I assume that they were VERY profitable since in the "Family Appreciation Day" episode Granny Smith told the class that it was because of her sales that Ponyville was founded. That being said, for at least a generation and a half(60 years) the Apple Family has made a killing selling their wares. Now I don't know about you, but if I have a VERY successful and VERY legal business on my hands, and I have the choice to run or stay, I would stay and continue growing the business.
So, what's left? We've considered divorce and running away. What else is there? There is one thing... A sudden death... that is the only thing that I can think of as why they wouldn't be in the series at all. All we know is that the mother is a member of the Orange Family, and the father a member of the Apple Family(taking into account of standard marriage laws). That's it. That's all we know about them. Why? Because perhaps Applejack is bottling up her emotions and memories so that we don't see them. The pony it hurts the most might be Big Mac since he never talks(but that's a wild guess). But I still think Applejack might have a lot of emotional baggage on her back since she's always working. Now, that may be because she's a farmer and she needs to do her part, but, call me crazy, I think one of the reasons Applejack almost killed herself during the "Applebuck Season" episode is because of the emotional strain on her body. I mean, we can assume that two or three days prior to that episode, during the first part of the "Friendship is Magic" two-parter, she was hosting the Apple Family Reunion. Seeing all her family might have triggered some memories about her parents and caused her to find an escape from the pain of not having her folks alive. And I think it's the reason she kept trying to keep her friends from helping at first. Maybe within that insatiable work ethic is a boiling cauldron of conflicting emotions reacting to several memories that have been brought back up. Maybe her work is because she is trying to escape the pain of her loss.
People have different ways of coping, and I think work is the only way Applejack can cope. It's all she knows and all she can do. Her work is her escape. And maybe the reason she is trying to get so much money is because she wants to prove that she can be as good as they were, or to prove that she is willing to expand their enterprise in their name. Think about it, during her fantasy in "The Ticket Master" episode, she wanted the money so she can preserve the home and business that was left for her to inherit.
Again, I don't know if this is true, or even canon, but it makes you think more about this family...
I bet they're just traveling salesponies
