    Still Alive

It's been a while, hasn't it? I'm sure many of you are scratching your heads to remember just who I am. Needless to say, my plans for future stories didn't go quite as planned, and life has been pretty crazy since I was last active on here. I'm going to ramble a bit, so I'll put a tl;dr at the bottom.

A New Story in the Works

Now that I've finally completed Rifts, I've begun work on my next story. It'll be a great deal shorter than Rifts was, being a one-shot by my standards (though, that still might break 20k words.) I'll be exploring just how badly a HiE first contact can go when neither side is really at fault.

    The Final Stretch

After months of work, Rifts is finally getting close to its conclusion, with only two chapters left to go. It's been quite the journey, and I've been thrilled to have such amazing support for my first story. I never dreamed I'd get 200 favorites, yet I actually passed it! And what's more, I actually gained a few followers (good thing, too, else this post would just end up just gathering dust.)

    Rifts Monsterpedia

It seems I somehow wound up with some followers, so I suppose I ought to make a blog post! Firstly, I'd like to thank all of you for your interest in my writing, and I sincerely hope that I do not disappoint. Secondly, for those of you who would like to see them, here are some pictures of the various rift spawn encountered so far in Rifts. If you don't like anything of that sort, and want to

The Final Stretch · 12:37am Sep 21st, 2013

After months of work, Rifts is finally getting close to its conclusion, with only two chapters left to go. It's been quite the journey, and I've been thrilled to have such amazing support for my first story. I never dreamed I'd get 200 favorites, yet I actually passed it! And what's more, I actually gained a few followers (good thing, too, else this post would just end up just gathering dust.) For all of your encouragement and criticism, you have my thanks.

Anyway, I have a question to ask of anyone who's reading this. Since I'm going to be wrapping things up, it'll be the last chance to answer any unanswered questions. Though I have plans to answer many of those questions, I'd like to make sure I'm not overlooking any that people have. So, what would you like to know? Perhaps you'd like to know a little bit more about a certain character, or you'd like to know just how well Thunder Muffin took Tristan's rejection. I'm not guaranteeing that I'll end up answering any questions asked here, but if it's feasible I'll try to work it into the narrative.

So feel free to ask anything you'd like in the comments below. It's not limited to things in the story, either. If you have anything at all you'd like to ask about anything not related to the story, I'll just respond in the comments. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I sincerely hope the next two chapters satisfy everyone.

I kinda wonder what happened to his friend that lost his arm, but that's the kind of thing that's probably never going to be answered in the story.

1363681 Actually, I could work that in just fine. It'll be there, in chapter 12.

This story feels somewhat short, but I'm okay with it. Can't wait for the rest ^-^

So do you have Tristan going into the base of the evil overlord to cut the mind control? With him either failing/heroically succeeding and dieing/living in another world/returning to Earth/returning to Equestria? That seems kinda fast.

But for questions... None spring to my mind. I already gathered that someone picked upon the portals Lore made, created rifts to dump lots of expendable forces on Equestria and bring them under mind control so they would destroy the natives. I suppose you are going to reveal who is behind this anyway.

1364261>>1364382 I know I could do a lot more with Rifts, but I'm looking forward to having it completed. With the way the world is built I could really write it for as long as I pleased, but I have some other ideas for stories that I'd really like to explore, and I don't want to write multiple stories at the same time. After all, I'm slow enough as it is updating Rifts with it being the only story I'm writing.

That's not to say that I'm just hastily making some random ending because I want to be done, though. This is the ending I've had in mind for quite some time, and I'm hoping that everyone will find it satisfactory. Besides, I think that breaching the 100k mark (and it will get there) on my first story is quite the accomplishment, and I'm happy that I was able to stick with it for so long.

I understand.

1366251 This story... I mean wow... This is one of the greatest stories I have ever read on fimfiction. I mean all the elements in the story are awesome! Let me list off a few:

1. The main character has no direct (or indirect for that matter) contact with the main 6. Which is good because alot of HiE stories usually don't have that, so it's nice to see something different.
2. From what I can tell, all the characters that Tristian has interacted with (except for Celestia and Luna) are ALL OC's which is interesting and a nice change of pace from the main character usually meeting the main 6 first and usually basing the main characters adventures there.
3. You gave some background info on Tristian (albeit, not a whole lot) but enough to give us some insight into Tristan's character. I like it when authors give their main characters like Tristian, some background info. Like what his upbringing was, like if he had abusive parents or a fairly nice life ect. what he was doing before he landed in Equestria, like Tristian going for a walk with his best friend Eric, and what the main characters future goals were (like Tristian attending college for business).
4. The elements of harmony actually FAILED so now Equestria will have to rely on its armed forces aka military to fend off the rift spawn attacks.

And this story is SO GOOD!!! Please POST MORE CHAPTERS!!!:pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy:

And on a offhand note, I also like the idea when Tristian was going to fall into the rift, that Eric actually tried to pull him out of the rift, (the cover image for the story shows that) But am I the only one who is sad that Eric couldn't get Tristian out of the rift :fluttercry: But why did Eric lose his grip? Or at least fall with him? And was Tristian really believing that he was in a dream when he was falling into the rift? And why did his arm get chopped off? And WILL ERIC BE IN THE STORY AT ALL? AND WILL TRISTIAN EVER GO BACK TO EARTH??? Lol, I have alot of questions. :twilightblush:

1366251 Btw, who made that cover image for rifts? Was it you, or someone else?

1366251 And what does your user photo mean? It's a bunch of dice? Is it supposed to shape like something or what? And I noticed the dice are stacked in a way that I can't tell if they are lying flat on a table or stacked up and down. Is it like an illusion? I'm confused.

And in your bio it said you were a DM. What does that mean? Oh, and by the way sorry for asking so many questions though but I'm curious. :twilightblush:

1378449 First off, thanks for all that feedback! It's always nice to know what parts people liked, so that I can improve myself and better entertain my readers. Anyway, on to your questions!

-When Eric was hanging on to Tristan, he wasn't fully through the rift. Instead, only his arm was sticking out, while the rest of him remained on the other side. The rift closed abruptly, severing his arm because he wasn't fully on either side.

-As for whether Eric will be in the story again, or whether Tristan will get back to Earth, those questions will be answered within the story.

-My cover image was made by DarkCord, who's a friend of mine. He's currently in the process of writing his very first story. If you're interested in getting some work done from him, he doesn't have any regular commissions, but I'm sure he'd be agreeable to working something out for a cheap price, or even free.

-My avatar picture is an opitcal illusion, which I enjoy tormenting people with. Notice all of the die are perfectly next to one another, with each connection seeming to be perfectly normal. But yet, they couldn't possibly form the shape they do if that's true...

-Lastly, DM stands for "Dungeon Master", a term used for the person who runs games of Dungeons and Dragons (the tabletop). I've used a lot of what I've learned from D&D in writing Rifts, with many of the spawn coming right out of the D&D world (with some modifications, of course.) The adventure through the Everfree in particular pretty closely mirrored a D&D campaign session.

Thanks again for the questions, and for your readership! If you have any more please don't hesitate to ask.
