Hey there everyone! It's a wonderful Friday the 13th and I hope you're all going to have a great day! In the spirit of the end of the week with 48 hours of weekend time stretching ahead of us in the distance, I thought I'd give you guys some non-pony related entertainment to plug your ear and eyeholes with in your copious free time.
PODCASTS!
I love me some podcasts. Almost as much as I love books and audiobooks. I listen to lots of different podcasts and here are a few of my favorites:
Stuff You Should Know: When I'm not reading pony stories to my kids at bedtime they really love to listen to this show. My son, Luke, especially loves it. There are TONS of episodes to choose from and each one goes into detail about some subject you've either wondered about, or haven't yet thought about wondering about. Check it out if you like to learn about very random but very interesting things.
Knifepoint Horror: This podcast is a horror podcast where each episode is a separate, self-contained short horror story. These stories are all excellent and chilling and creepy and all manner of uncomfortable adjectives. If you like to feel creeped out, take a listen.
Apocalypse Engine: This is an actual play broadcast of a pen and paper RPG system that was created by the people in the podcast. Not only is the podcast funny and the story excellent, but these people stay in character ALL THE TIME. It's excellent. I've never been more entertained by an actual play podcast before or since.
Minute Physics: This isn't an audio podcast. It's a video one. Each episode is between two and five minutes long and each one attempts (usually successfully) to explain a particular question or facet of physics. Questions include How Big is the Universe? What if the Earth were Hollow? The Higgs Boson, and Theory of Everything. It's very interesting and extremely informative.
Welcome to Night Vale: Oh. Oh wow. If you haven't listened to Welcome to Night Vale yet, you've been missing out on an incredible podcast. This podcast takes the form of a community radio broadcast for the fictional southwestern US town of Night Vale. Except, in Night Vale, all conspiracy theories are true. Think Lake Woebegone meets Call of Cthulhu. Endlessly entertaining and thoroughly weird, don't miss this!
Dan Carlin's Hardcore History: This series is an exploration of various historical events, like the Mongol invasion of the world and the fall of the Roman Empire. The host of the show, Dan Carlin, is informative and really makes the history come alive and become engrossing. I've been listening to the history of Ghengis Khan for the past couple of days now and it's like I'm watching a movie! I've never been this interested in history before.
