Why being a brony means so much to me (And maybe every other brony out there) · 1:37am Aug 9th, 2013

Why being a brony means so much to me

All my life I've had trouble "fitting in" as some would put it. I never really liked society, and loving long hair didn't exactly help. Before I became a brony, I never had anywhere to exert my creativity. I can sing and write stories, but it was never enough. I felt like my life was missing something, something crucial. I friends, music, and creativity, but I couldn't help feel like something was missing. Then it hit me. I didn't have a group. High school is all about groups, and if you're going to fit in or not. All tenth grade I just jumped between groups, but I never really sat down, and enjoyed a certain group. The last few weeks of tenth grade is when I was introduced into the bronies.

I came in thinking, "A little girl's show? Weirdos." but that's when my friend told me it was made by Lauren Faust. At the time that meant nothing to me, in fact I asked my friend who that was. He told me that Lauren had made Power Puff Girls and Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends. Which just happened to be part of my top favorite cartoons list. So that intrigued me more than anything. I went and watched an episode, and I didn't get it at first, but then I kept watching and after a while I found myself humming or singing the theme song. That's when I found out I was a brony.

To tell the truth this came as a surprise at first, but I accepted it and moved on not telling anyone. I then realized that's the opposite of what I should be doing. I should be a brony, and I should be proud. So I accepted that fact very quickly. It was June, 7th, 2013 when I told my mom. I thought she was going to not accept me, but she actually accepted it and started watching the show. She became a fan within two episodes. She still loves the show up to today.

People ask me, "Isn't it weird that she likes the show?"

I just reply with, "No, not really. It's a good show. It's for all ages, sizes, and genders." That gets me a weird look, but I just shake it off. I've always hated most people. I was never a nice person. I always been an asshole, for lack of a better term. When I found out being a brony is all about being nice I knew I wouldn't fit in there either. Over the five months I've been a brony, I actually have been acting a lot nicer. I've been a happier person in general. The show brings me so much happiness, and the fandom throws me over. Everyone and everything in the fandom is just so amazing. I hadn't cried over anything since I was eight years old, but when I read My Little Dashie I cried for ten minutes straight.

"Have I really changed this much?" I asked myself. I never had cried over a book, movie, or television show. I never got really into any of those things up until that day. Now I can't listen to Raise This Barn without feeling extreme happiness. When I heard the song coming with season four, Apples Forever, I almost started to cry because it is such a beautiful song. I spent my entire summer with my friend who I turned into a brony. Best summer I've ever had.

Then there is the question, "Who is best pony?" If you are a brony you will be asked this question there is no way around it. With that in mind I went and did some research. Best pony meaning, the best character in the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. This doesn't mean favorite, but seem to take it that way.

"Well if that is true, then who really is best pony?" You ask yourself. I'll tell you. Best pony is Applejack because she is all the elements of harmony except magic. She is kind, loyal, honest, fun, and generous. She has one con, but she fixed that in the episode The Last Roundup. But that doesn't mean she is my favorite. My favorite pony is Rainbow Dash. I love everything about Rainbow Dash. I love her personality, her loyalty, and she can be nice if she wants. But then people ask me to rank the mane six. That list would be favorite to least favorite.

My list:
1. Rainbow Dash
2. Applejack
3. Twilight Sparkle
4. Pinkie Pie
5. Rarity
6. Fluttershy.

Then shipping comes into play when people ask, "Who do you ship?" When I first became a brony I had no idea what this meant, but after some research I found to what shipping was I found that AppleDash was my favorite. AppleDash always has, and always will be my favorite shipping. Why do I enjoy AppleDash so much? I think they are absolutely the best couple. Their personalities mix and intertwine perfectly. They are also extremely cute, but those are just my opinion's.

Getting back on topic, I would have never have written something like this if I wasn't a brony. I would have never shown my emotions, and I would still be miserable. It turns no matter how much you think you'll have if you are alone, you never will have as much fun as a brony with his/her brony friend's. I was always very miserable, but becoming a brony has made my life so much better. I fit in, I love the fandom, and I love the show. Being a brony brings me so much happiness. It's impossible to explain all the joy and fun that the fandom brings me in words because there aren't enough words in this world to explain that joy and happiness I feel.

I love feeling like I belong somewhere. Like this is what I meant to do. Like this is where I'm supposed to be. My destiny. (Reference to Twilight Sparkle) The brony fandom is probably the best fandom out there because we have raised thousands of dollars for charity. Bronies are just one big family, they aren't just a fandom, they are a family.

Thanks for reading!
