Help curb sexual assault in U.S. colleges by signing this petition · 4:03pm Jul 13th, 2013
This a petition on Change.org demanding that the U.S. government actually take action against colleges and universities which fail to meet standards of how they handle cases of rape and sexual assault.
Education institutions in the U.S. are legally required to meet a certain standard of conduct in order to protect their students. However, over half of these institutions--from small local colleges to prestigious universities such as Yale--do not do so, and the U.S. government is lax to punish them for it.
This petition was written by a Yale student who was raped. When she informed her school, they not only failed to prosecute her assaulter, they covered up the incident and demanded she keep quiet, claiming that taking action was "too draining" and that her rapist probably attacked her out of affection.
Cases like these are not isolated; if you are a U.S. citizen, you should sign this petition to end this poor treatment of students by the schools meant to protect them.
