Things to Know For: Burn Me, Like the Sun · 8:51pm Jul 4th, 2013

Things to Know

Okay, this is going to be something I plan on doing for all of the stories I write, even if not all of them are quite so in depth (as a side note, Like the Sun is going to be part of a series detailing various things throughout my perception of MLP lore). Okay, so basically, I'll be releasing these close to the time of release (generally after) for anything I upload, unless I feel exceptionally lazy. This will consist of a bullet list of various facts that I think people should know when encountering the story. I would actually recommend reading these after the story itself, so if you haven't done so, please read Like the Sun chapter 1: Burn Me, which should be tagged in this post. Generally, I like a work to speak for itself, so I won't be explaining any of the thematic significance here, just some of the fun facts and various snippets of info. Without further ado, here we go.

*Caelus is the Roman God of the sky. Astraeus was a Roman titan roughly related to dusk.

*Aurora Borealis (the northern lights) is a phenomenon that occurs in the sky which, when seen directly, defies words. I’m sure most of you know this.

*Chrysanthemum boreale is a type of flower which is particularly susceptible to the Black Plight.

*“Ignis Caelestis Corde” translates from latin as Celestial Fire Heart.

*“Lunam Noctem Vigilem” means Moon Night Sentry

*Lucis is a distant ancestor to Sombra.

*Caelus was not born an alicorn, but was uplifted, like Twilight and Cadance.

*Equestria is a monarchy in which the Queen maintains majority power.

*The Equestrian military is strong, but mostly unnecessary (and unopposed).

*An ironic fact is that most of this story involving a Sun Princess was written at night.

*Within my own interpretation of the alicorn phenomenon post-season 3, alicorn is both a status and a state of existence. If two alicorns mate, they produce another alicorn. However, because all of the alicorns have died out except Celestia and Luna, they had to wait for ponies to undergo a crowning achievement and master their own inner magic. So far, the only ponies to do so have been female, thus perpetuating this need to rely on other ponies to create more of their species.

*Born alicorns grow to maturity, then cease to age. Created alicorns age like any other pony.

*For the record, I know that the Elements of Harmony don’t have the marks on them in the show until they’re the jewelry versions. I took some artistic liberty.
