Quick Bug Hunt Update + thoughts on the Equestria Girls trailer · 10:19am May 13th, 2013
Yes, I live.
So sorry for the lack of updates folks, especially with Bug Hunt. The latest chapter has been a total pain, because I have had issues trying to nail down just what exactly I want it to focus on. I have re-written it twice so far.
Plus, I got laid off from my job and have been back in the job hunt for around two months now, so that has been sucking up most of my free time. I don't have an ETA for the next chapter, but rest assured: it's coming. Slowly, but it's coming.
Anyway, remember my post about Equestria Girls a while back?
Well, the trailer was released today.
Not gonna lie. After seeing it the first time, I was pretty much in shock and awe for about an hour.
"They actually doing this. Are you fucking kidding me? Someone over at Hasbro has to be on something to green light this."
After taking a breather, downing a shot of Jack Daniels, and going back to re-watch it a couple of times. I jotted down some of my thoughts in a more level-headed state:
- Spike as a dog is real. Oh god why.
- Twilight freaking out about being human is both good and bad. Good if, hopefully, written and animated well.
- Twilight not able to use magic is a good thing in my book. Makes things more complicated. Looks like they all have to use the "magic of friendship" to make magic actually work in this universe instead of it being natural arcane energy.
- Looks like they're basically redoing the pilot episodes, just with the human/high school twist. Hoo boy. Again, could either be good or bad, but the general idea is rather unoriginal.
- Looks like the Spike from Equestria goes along for the ride, so at least Twilight will have someone to hopefully side with in this mirror world. Unless he's a DOG dog and cannot talk at all. If that happens I will be pretty pissed.
- Sunset Shimmer won't be in S4 but is in EG as it turns out. I see what you did there with those tweets, McCarthy.
- Oh yeah, turns out Tabitha lied when she tweeted that she had never heard about this since all of the original VAs are in this.
- Question: Who the hell was it that leaked some of the character designs to the internet over the last couple of months? Disgruntled crew member or former employee, perhaps? We've seen these character designs on Derpibooru and 4chan as far back as March, but they were dismissed as fan creations.
- Hey, the actual show assets aren't as bad as the art designs! They're actually kind of good! Yay!
- Scootaloo does the chicken dance at the dance scene. Wow. I think this movie will have a ton of fans screaming PANDARINGS at it.
- So... is blue hair jock boy Mirror Shining Armor? They sound the same, but it's interesting that his mark is different than what Shining's is as a pony?
FINAL VERDICT: I can't believe I'm saying this... but I have hopes that this will be decent or even good. As asinine and cliche the plot and setting is (fucking High School, man), it's being directed by the FIM crew and written by McCarthy. It's bound to be watchable at the very least.
I don't know for sure, though. I hope more trailers and information worm their way out into the open before Mid-June so those fans that are shitting their pants over this can maybe calm the fuck down.
Or it will get worse with each info leak.
Who knows.
As it stands though, I'm actually excited to see how this goes down. For better or for worse.

If you aren't TOO many words in, I suggest focusing on the Changelings a bit more. Not so much to reveal your big plot twist, but just a very tiny snippet before they became... that.
And on Equestria Girls... well, you don't know me, but I am very negative about these kind of things.
Don't ask why, I just am.
As FastShadow78 said, try to elaborate some more on the Changelings in a future chapter. Maybe show how they link to the xenomorph in some way?
