Okay, let's get this party started which interestingly enough is going to be today's lesson. Before you start writing any story no matter if it's fan fiction, regular fiction, or even nonfiction you must ask yourself a simple question: why am I writing this? This may seem irrelevant but trust me it's not. This question cannot be answered with a simple statement such as: I wrote this story to entertain or I wrote this story to inform. Okay the key flaws to statements like these two examples are well lack of detail. Stories are all meant to entertain and inform otherwise they are just as good as that gum wrapper in the trash. So ask yourself how will you entertain and what will you teach in the story. There you go one simple thing that will make you a better writer with only the knowledge of the process. Oh and one final thing a story without a lesson is a waste of words. If you must, think how the letter to Celestia would look.
