Onyx: Changeling OC · 2:22am Apr 26th, 2013
Some of you may have noticed the short story I have about Onyx. If you want to use him at all, just message me or leave a comment on my page. He is a Changeling and, as shown in the story, he is not as violent as the ones from Chrysalis's Hive.
Ah, that brings me to another point about Changelings. There are different Hives and Colonies. Hives are like warrior-cities while Colonies are more peaceful. Also, Changelings do not just feed off of love, the feed off of other emotions as well as normal food. It's just that love is the most potent of the emotions (it's like bacon/nutella to Changelings).
For the sake of Onyx, I'm also going off the idea that the eye color symbolizes different Hive Sectors of the Changeling Badlands. Blue is Chrysalis's, for example. Onyx's Hive Sector has the stereotypical green eye trait. Onyx, though, was born with a red right eye.
The red eyes of Changelings belonged to a tyrannical (even by Changeling standards) leader; Emperess Lasher. Lasher, like I said, was tyrannical even by Changeling standards. More Changelings died by her rage alone than anything else in the Badlands. When Lasher's Blood-Eye Hive grew out to the edge of her sector, she had set her eyes on her fellow Hives. Inter-Changeling wars are not uncommon but the rest of the Hive Sectors saw the threat of Lasher's Blood-Eyes.
With a shaky alliance in place, the other Hives assaulted Lasher first. The war was long and bloody but soon the Blood-Eyes were on the run, scattering into the other sectors like roaches. Their Hive Sector was split amongst the alliance members while the Hive itself had been destroyed in the fighting.
Many of the Blood-Eyes were able to mate (most through rape) and create offspring. Their red eyes became recessive genes in the offspring to be passed down from generation to generation. So, when Onyx was born with one red eye, he was seen as a threat to his Hive due to his Blood-Eye heritage. Thus, when he was able to survive on his own, he was given the choice of exile or death. The choice was obvious enough to the young Onyx.
Now, he wanders the Equestrian wilds, seeking his place in an unforgiving world.
