    Second Time's the... something

Alright, so I know I said back in... December that I'd write a story. Surprise surprise, I didn't. I'd blame college, but of course that just isn't true. After getting wrapped up in Second Semester of College, a game submitted to Mass Digi (spoiler: fifth place in category just behind runner-up), and the new Fire Emblem, thinking about writing has been put to the side, let alone plain-old

    First Time's the Charm

Alright, I'm gonna try to get my hands shoulder-deep into this thing called "fanfiction". For too long have I struggled with improper spelling, run-on sentences, and incorrect tenses. Too long have people squandered time and effort to release a story so utterly cliche, so nonsensical, so out of character, that any immersion is blasted out of the air like an old duck-shooter game.

Alright, so I know I said back in... December that I'd write a story. Surprise surprise, I didn't. I'd blame college, but of course that just isn't true. After getting wrapped up in Second Semester of College, a game submitted to Mass Digi (spoiler: fifth place in category just behind runner-up), and the new Fire Emblem, thinking about writing has been put to the side, let alone plain-old writing it.

My thought processes has been redirected towards game ideas and programming, none of them Pony-related. Ideas I had for stories months ago have vanished, either due to neglect or due to a sudden revelation to the cliche of the main arc and subsequently scrubbed from my mind. As such, nothing is coming soon. I'm not gonna candy coat it for the 10 people that will read this within the next four months. Nothing is coming.

Possibly ever.

See, a friend of mine from college is writing his own story. I don't have any links to anything about it yet, but just hearing him talk about it made me groan a little. We got into a 10 minute argument about how he should/shouldn't add a reference to (dare I say it) "20% cooler". I, of course, was on the side of "no", and he couldn't see why mentioning that phrase completely breaks immersion for the reader. I would have given sources that misused that meme, but... let's just say I couldn't find them. Either way, stories like these scare me and make me apprehensive towards producing content like that. As much as I'd like to tilt my nose upwards to that frivolous display of brutish filth called a "story", I am deathly afraid becoming what I fear. Will my characters be relatable? Will they respond, react, reconsider, and change based on passing challenges? Will I walk the line between overpowered and pathetic?

Or will I fall into the shadows of stereotypes and obscurity?

...that was depressing to type Ed. and to re-read.
Either way, I'll give it some thought. As per the norm, my first work, if ever, will be a clumsy romp through self-insert, which I still believe is actually a good idea since it (should) teach the writer to be true to himself/herself, point out their own flaws, and self-explore while practicing the recreation of well-known characters.

Until next time, whenever that is.

P.S. Is "relateable" a word? It's giving me the red squiggles... Crisis averted

Well, hey, man, if you're not one for writing, you don't HAVE to do so. Just from reading this, I think you have the vocabulary and proper mindest to go about doing so, though. Just give it some time and focus on your creative side first and foremost :moustache:

P.S. "Relatable" doesn't have another e in it :ajsmug:
