    Good News, Everybody!

I have finally found an idea that I think shows promise for being my first fanfic! I can more-or-less imagine what sort of content I could put in it, and believe that it's both original enough to not have been done before (not going to potentially ruin it for myself by checking though) and interesting enough that people will actually want to read it (and hopefully I'll be motivated enough to not

Not that anyone will actually see this, but...

After Fighting is Magic received a Cease and Desist order earlier today (or at least, they announced it earlier today), I took it upon myself to start a petition requesting that Hasbro reconsiders the action. If you somehow reach this page and wish to do at least the bare minimum in support of Fighting is Magic specifically, or fanmade non-profit games in general, then please visit

I have finally found an idea that I think shows promise for being my first fanfic! I can more-or-less imagine what sort of content I could put in it, and believe that it's both original enough to not have been done before (not going to potentially ruin it for myself by checking though) and interesting enough that people will actually want to read it (and hopefully I'll be motivated enough to not give up... I have a problem with that in just about everything I do). Unfortunately, going completely against the advice I've given to the absolutely amazing Mickey Dubs, it cannot be told in a short format; it must be an epic tale of adventure on a massive scale or else it will be utter nonsense. Hopefully I don't get burned out and manage to make it entertaining the whole way, but I may end up doing other things in between chapters (which will be very irregular anyway) but once I figure out how the story should start I'll probably make a fairly short Chapter 1 so I can get some early criticism and perhaps additional ideas. Look forward to it sometime between now and never.

As for what the idea is... That will remain a secret from all unless I struggle with even a short first chapter. I'll give you a hint though: It has nothing to do with Lyra (the pony) and Orpheus (the ancient Greek tragedy), although I did have that idea first; I decided to put it away for an indeterminate duration on account of not having a clue how the two would go together in practice and because I actually haven't read or watched Orpheus. All I know is that he's a demigod of music and plays the Lyre, which seemed like enough to justify the story.

The truth is awesome. Anyways, between the time I have what I consider a complete chapter and the time I post the story I will be sure to let you read it; your advice will be welcomed on such a daunting task. You're also welcome to offer advice on the Lyra/Orpheus thing, I'm downright stumped but think it's a valid concept. Alternatively, anybody's free to just take that and go write their own story; it may be my idea but unlike a certain group I will not name I don't believe I have the right to limit and/or control things which only contain a small piece of my work just because my piece was first....

But that's something else entirely.

So wait...you don't remember the old myth? To sum it up, Orpheus was silver tongued and very musical. He could make even the gods obey him if he played his best. However, Thanatos (death) has no care for music, and didn't hesitate to take his lover to Tartarus. After her death, he almost broke apart,a nd had little will left to live. So of course, he decided to rescue her from hell. So he decided to wander into Tartarus, and force his own petition. His skills with the Lyre aided him with making it past Cerberus and other such monsters, and even swayed the very heart of Hades himself. So it was arranged for him to be able to lead his lover from hell itself on one condition. He must not look at her while she is still following him since mortals aren't supposed to view the dead. A long story short, when his lover cries out right before they escape, he looks back and she disappears. Yup, sad story. :fluttershbad:

I knew the basics, but I haven't actually seen a performance or adaptation personally. I'm not big on tragedy anyways.
