Controversial news stuffage · 11:53pm Feb 7th, 2013
What's up, Firefanatic here. Anyway, I've decided to put up some news and statuses. Here goes, let's hope I like this sort of weekly update thing. (If I do, the next one will be on Saturday)
1. I have reached a startling conclusion: I appear to hate shipping, in all its forms. Yes, that's right, I hate shipping in all its forms. What I have seen in this particular fandom consists of lesbo shipping left and right. I, being a straight male homo-sapient, rationally should think that girl-on-girl is hot. And in some cases, I appear to do so. But here's the problem: I appreciate straight shipping more than any other shipping, because that's what biologically is allowed with our bodies. Yes, man was biologically meant to be with woman, not woman with man, or man with man. But because of a show with primarily female characters, shippers tend to ship female characters together. Because my mind says no to these sorts of things, My Little Pony may be responsible for ruining the idea of fannon romance. There may be another factor in play: The quality of shipping fics. Don't get me wrong, I've read some excellent ones. But I feel that the majority are... shallow. I could sum up pretty much all of them in a sentence: Pony A reject's pony B's affections, but has a change of heart, deciding that he/she liked pony B's affections after all, and starts a suddenly extremely deep relationship, halpillyeverafterTHEEND. (No, I'm being irrational, they're not all like that.) At any rate, there's usually no buildup and no suspense, and within the first three chapters, I'm able to predict how a shipfic is going to end. There's just no variety.
Now that that's over, on to a less controversial topic!
2. And by less controversial, only a little. I'm talking about Alicorn Twilight. As I wrote in an earlier journal, I was going to hold off on Alliance for a little while until the whole thing blows over. Now, I for one welcome our new twilight pony overlord, and anypony's automatically cuter with wings attached to their bodies. (Admit it, you like the pretty pony princesses!) I feel this is going to be much like the freakout about reforming Discord earlier, and the freakout before that about the Canterlot royal wedding thing, and I'm sure there have been many other freakouts over things that really didn't turn out so bad before, even good. Considering the show itself in it's pilot episodes was going that same way with the freakout thing, I'm not that surprised. Seriously, put your trust in the staff. If Lauren can make a bad idea into a very good one, so can the staff she left behind. They have not failed us, they will not.
3. In other news, A little birdie on derpibooru told me that Twilicorn was going to stay in Ponyville. My hopes are raised at the present, and I hope the little birdie's right. Still, I'm planning on marching forward with getting the first page of Alliance out sometime this weekend. Wish me luck.
That's all I have for news! I like this, so I'll see you Saturday!
